“What stick?”
“The one that is always shoved up her ass—does he have one too?”
“Oh no, and besides it’s not the one up his ass I’d be focused on.” Bailey laughed.
“Naughty.”
“He asked me to dinner tonight.”
“Really? Where?”
“We’re meeting at Silverado’s.”
“Ooh, big spender.”
“Yup. So, can I borrow your red dress?”
“The one with the open back?”
“That’s the one.”
“Of course, but if you get anything on it, you pay the dry-cleaning bill.”
“You got it. Thanks! Tell everyone I’ll miss them tonight!”
“Will do!” Bailey jumped to her feet and did a little dance. “Woohoo! I’ve got a hot date tonight!” After cranking up the music, she jumped into the shower and sang her heart out to the words of the new country station playlist on her phone.

Simon staredat the door to his new apartment. He took a deep breath and turned the key in the lock. The door swung open, and he stepped inside. It looked exactly like it had a month ago, the only difference being the scent in the air. It had been coffee last time; now it smelled like a cinnamon roll.
Music blasted out from the bathroom, and he immediately retreated back into the hall. What the hell was all that noise? Had his new roommate forgotten to turn the damn radio off?
He stepped back in and dropped his duffle on the floor. The door closed behind him just as the woman he’d spent the last month thinking about nonstop stepped from the bathroom, wearing nothing but a towel.
“What the hell! Who are you?” she demanded, tightening the towel around her.
Simon’s throat closed up for a moment, and he turned around to face the opposite direction. It took him a moment of not looking at her before he was able to speak. “I’m Simon, Tucker’s friend. We met a month ago? I’m moving into Emma’s old room.”
“Oh!” She laughed. “Sorry! Hang on.”
He closed his eyes tightly and cussed himself out silently until he heard her come back into the room.
“It’s safe now.”
He took a deep breath and saw she’d put on a pink robe. “I remember you now, sorry.” She laughed again. “I’m—”
“Bailey.”
“Yep, welcome to our humble abode. Tucker brought all your stuff in yesterday.”
Simon nodded. “So he said.”
“I’m going to go take a nap, I’ve got a date tonight.” She grinned. “But if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask!” She headed toward her room and looked over her shoulder. “Simon?”
“Yeah?”
“You seem like a nice guy, and I trust Tucker's judgment, but you should know that I carry a gun and know how to use it.” She stepped into her room and shut the door, leaving him smiling like an idiot in the living room.
He liked his new roommate.
