Foi cleared his throat and Porter's head whipped around as his eyes went as big as saucers.

Jaygen glanced down at the kitten in Porter's arms. "Want to explain what that thing is doing here?"

Porter's eyes went bigger and, as if he could hide the creature from Jaygen, he stuffed the kitten under his shirt. "What thing?"

Foi groaned and Cyrus chuckled.

"Porter, I think It's too late for that," Cyrus mock-whispered.

Porter's face went red. Jaygen gave the human a blank stare gazing into Porter's very soul. All too quickly Porter started to squirm under Jaygen's glare.

"He's harmless and so adorable and I take really good care of him and Spooky doesn't make any noise and he's really good..." Porter started to ramble and repeat how the creature in his hands was a perfect animal and not the flea-ridden dirtbag Jaygen saw it as.

"You already named it?" Jaygen asked. His gaze fell to Foi and Cyrus who were both avoiding his eyes now.

"Jaygen, let's keep him," Ozni finally spoke up.

Jaygen growled at the daywalker but already knew he couldn't get rid of the thing when Porter had clearly grown attached to it.

"Each of you will take whatever punishment I pick out without complaint," Jaygen said.

"Deal," Porter rushed out. His smile glowed as if Jaygen had handed him the world and as if the night before hadn't happened at all. The bruises on his face made Jaygen's heart ache and his tiger craved the blood of their enemies.

"Okay, but can we take it after Porter is fully healed?" Cyrus said quietly.

It was too meek for the incubus, but Jaygen saw the guilt still in the man's eyes as he stared at Porter.

"What? Oh I'm fine. I actually feel a lot better than I thought," Porter said, stretching and moving as if to test his body's limitations. He shrugged as he looked at each of them. "I've been at the mercy of that man's hands my entire life. This is mild."

Cyrus looked as if he was about to argue with Porter but Jaygen stepped forward and wrapped his hand around Porter's slender throat. A tingle of desire trickled down his spine and Jaygen's hand instantly tightened slightly.

"Good. Go put that thin—"

"Spooky," Porter interrupted.

Jaygen stared into Porter's eyes and met a resolve that made him want to push Porter down to his knees and remind the human of his place. Instead, he caved to those warm, brown eyes. "Go put Spooky away and meet us downstairs in the basement." Jaygen forced himself to let Porter go. "Foi, stay with Porter. Ozni and Cyrus, you’re with me."

Ozni lifted a brow as if asking why he was going.

"You are a part of us. It's time we’re all together and I have plans for you to assist with this punishment," Jaygen said with a smirk curling his lips.

He had such wonderful things in store.

Porter putSpooky into his room and petted his head a few times. He smiled at his black little kitten, one of the few highlights in his life. The kitten pushed against his fingers and he chuckled.

"You have to stay here, Spooky," Porter said as he scratched beneath his chin. "I'll be back shortly. Jaygen probably needs to blow off some steam."

Foi laughed. "You have no idea." He shook his head as Porter straightened up. "He's been a little bit of a mess. You didn't hear that from me though."

"Not a word."

Porter closed his bedroom door. They walked in silence for a minute, but Porter could feel Foi staring at him. Every time he glanced over the wolf looked away.

"What?" Porter laughed. "Are you just going to stare and not say anything now?"

"Sorry." Foi rubbed the back of his neck. "I was wondering if what you said to Cyrus was true. Are you sure you should be coming with me? Shouldn't you rest?"

Porter tilted his head. "I know it's hard to understand Foi, but really, I've gone through a lot worse. Broken bones, dislocated joints, cuts, bruises, burns. Dear old dad is pretty damn mean." He laughed lightly when Foi's fist clenched and a growl slipped from his lips. "I love that you're concerned about me, but I'm fine. Really. A little hit is way better than being locked in that place wondering what torture is going to come next." He laid a hand on Foi's chest, stopping him. "Kiss me. Please."
