“Trust me,” Porter said as he gazed at each of them. Arden joined and Spooky climbed up him until he sat on the man’s shoulder. “Let me do this. You’ve all taken care of me and now it’s my turn.”

Porter looked in his direction and the vampire was covered in blood. He looked like he was ready to eat the entire auction house. Porter stood up and walked over to him. Reaching out, he pushed his hand into Ozni's. The vampire snarled and his eyes narrowed before he saw Porter and calmed.

"You did good, Oz," Porter said softly. "But it's time to go." He turned to Arden. "Can you pick up Foi? I don't think he can move too well on his own yet."

"I'll take him. Oz, Cy, with me." Arden lifted Foi into his arms and for once the smart-mouthed wolf had nothing to say as he leaned his head onto Arden's broad chest. "Both of you be safe and you’re right. It’s going to be better if you two go alone. Go and get Jaygen."

Porter nodded. "We will." His face turned resolute as he looked at Amy. "Do you know where the keys are?"

"If we stick around in that room, there will be someone coming along sooner or later. The auction started, so they're going to have to come and get the cages to wheel them out or grab their product."

Porter shivered. "Let's go."

Porter kissed Oz and Cyrus both before he sent them off with Arden. They all spilled into the hallway and went their separate ways while Porter stayed on Amy's heels. She didn't say a word, her stride long as she looked around.

"Are you okay?" Porter ventured.

"Not now, little brother. Ask me when we're far the fuck away from here."

Porter nodded and kept his mouth shut. She was on a mission and he needed to be too. Later, they could let the realization of what just happened hit them, but not now. They slipped into the room and the moment Jaygen came into sight, Porter ran to him.

"You're okay." Jaygen let out a sigh of relief. "I couldn't get out of this damn cage and all I could think was you were hurt or-"

"I'm fine," Porter whispered, reaching out to touch his hand. "We're going to get you out of here so hold tight, okay?"

Jaygen nodded. "You said you loved me," he blurted.

Porter's cheeks flushed. "Yeah, I did say that." He smiled softly. "I love you, Jaygen and I can't wait for us to get out of here and go home."

"Me too," Jaygen smiled softly and Porter's heart felt like it was going to burst.

Finally, they were all going to be together again. As the sound of keys jingled Porter ducked around a corner with his sister. A man came into the room checking the numbers on the cages against a tablet in his hand. He turned the corner and Porter jumped on him. The man barely had time to grunt before he hit the ground and Porter's hands wrapped around his throat. He squeezed until the man passed out and Amy snatched up the key, letting Jaygen.

Porter flew into his embrace. Jaygen's big, strong arms wrapped around him and he felt the weight of the world crashing down on him again. The pain of everything they'd just gone through was starting to weigh on him, but he couldn't crumble. Not yet.

"Let's go home," Jaygen whispered.

Porter nodded and took his hand. They needed to leave as quickly as possible before someone discovered the blood bath they'd left in one of their rooms. Later they could figure things out, but for now it was time to retreat. Porter was all too glad to get the hell out of there.

“We haveto get out of here now,” Amy said.

Porter chewed his lip and Jaygen pulled it free of the torment the human was putting it through. He felt out of place, but standing there with Porter in his arms calmed the storm that threatened to take him. As long as he didn’t focus on what happened, he’d be able to continue moving forward.

“What about them?” He nodded toward the other cages. “We can’t leave them here,” Porter said.

Amy didn’t bat an eye and not a flicker of emotion passed her brown eyes. Jaygen already knew what she would say before she even opened her mouth. He couldn’t say he didn’t agree as much as it made his blood boil. They’d do more harm than good trying to set all the people in cages free. The most likely scenario was that it would create chaos and they would end up getting supernaturals killed who might have had a chance if they didn’t free them.

“I feel bad and I get it their life is shit because of what’s happening. But we free them and I can guarantee you we aren’t making it out of here alive,” Amy said. She shook her head. “How in the world are we supposed to escape? And not to mention where in the hell do you house all of these people? There are over fifty of them in this room alone.”

Another fair point. They’d have to hide and hide good with the number of people in the auction house. Not a possibility when they shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Porter looked ready to argue, but Jaygen squeezed his shoulder. “She’s right.”

It was despicable how supernaturals and humans were stuffed in cages and treated lower than stock. But they ran the risk of being caught. And no doubt death, not only for themselves, but the people in cages as well. Some might say death is a better fate, but how could they ever know that for sure if they were gone?

“I know you want to help Porter, and I love your big soft heart and I’m so glad that piece of shit never crushed that side of you fully, but we can’t help them like this,” Amy said.

Porter’s shoulders dropped as he gazed around the room once more. “Okay,” he whispered.

“Lead the way out of her—” Jaygen stopped talking instantly as he heard footsteps coming their way. He grabbed Amy and Porter on instinct alone and moved them around two more cages until they hid behind one that held a giant brown bear.
