"Okay, you can come in now."

The door was open only a foot when she noticed a figure behind him."Carl, you can enter, but why is Jason here?"

Jason put a hand on Carl's shoulder."I've got this."

Carl turned and left, and Jason stepped inside.

She waved the glass of champagne at him."I'm not sharing any of this," and before she knew it the glass was out of her hand, and she was in his arms.

"What? What are you doing busting in here like that?I thought we talked about patience!"

"I'm done with that."Jason pulled her tight to his body and bent his head low.Taking control of her mouth, his tongue slid in and sucked all her strength away.

She clung to him and whimpered."I, I, you shouldn't be doing this!"

"Like hell, I shouldn't.I've been patient for far too long."And then he was kissing her again.

Her heart felt as though it might burst.Yes, he'd been patient and willing to do this on her terms. She'd never met a finer man than him and would probably have to travel half the world to find one remotely close. He was everything she wanted, everything she needed.

She was tired of fighting it.Leaning back in his arms, she placed a gentle hand on his face.

"Jason, I don't want to do this anymore. You're the kindest man I know, and I just want to love you, be with you in any way I can."

His smile was radiant, his blue eyes misted with joy.She kissed his lashes, then his lips, and moved into him.He pulled her the rest of the way, his sensual mouth firm on hers—taking control, her allowing him to do so.He was her dream man, why had she kept fighting that truth?

He started to apologize and she put a finger on his mouth."No.It's done, over, we have a future to plan if you'll still have me?"

"We both need a glass of champagne for this."Jason handed her the glass he'd removed from her hands, and went for the bottle in the fridge. He filled his own glass and topped hers off before leading her to the bed.

She wanted him to kiss her, but he pressed his glass to hers and gazed into her

eyes."Let's drink to us."They both took a sip, then he knelt once again at her feet.

"You don't have to do this.Sit with me."

"I'm only going to do this once. Will you, Stephanie Collins, do me the great honor of marrying me?"

She gulped and gave a nervous laugh."Yes, yes, yes."She bent to kiss his mouth, wishing he'd get off his knees.

His smile said it all as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small jewelry box.He popped it open, and the exquisite diamond was so perfect tears flowed down her cheeks.

He slipped the white gold over her finger, and she kissed the brilliant diamond, surrounded by tiny emeralds.

"Are these," she touched the emeralds.

He nodded."To match your eyes."

"You are the most amazing, wonderful, thoughtful and perfect man I know."

Jason laughed."I hope so."Sitting next to her, he pulled her back into his arms."Stephanie, I’ve loved you from the first time we met, and I'll love you until my last breath.I've waited all my life for this moment. You have made me the happiest man in the world."

"I know how to make you happier," she said with a huge smile.

Gently, never taking his eyes off her, he pushed her back on the bed and kissed her soundly. With their heads on the pillow, he started talking about the opportunity to travel the world and save lives—the adventures they could have together."But I want you to know that I put the offer on hold. This is your choice, baby.I'll be happy either way."

She laughed and slid a leg over his, then tickled him."Don't be crazy!I never thought I'd enjoy being married to a doctor, but I was so wrong. You are the right man for me.While you're out saving lives, I'll be at home writing romance stories that will make my readers believe in love again."She kissed him."What a dope I was.I didn't see the big picture."

Jason put his arm on the pillow, facing her."I prayed you'd come around and realize what you were missing."He kissed behind her ear."You're the perfect mate for me, one I'll adore forever, and make you happy."He looked her in the eye."Happy wife, happy life—right?"
