But she’s pretty. My eyes immediately zero in on a dazzling white smile before drifting up to crystalline blue eyes. Brown curls fill the rest of the frame and surround her face. She’s a looker, for sure.

I could spend my company with worse people. Well, worse looking people, at least. That shouldn’t matter to me, but for some reason, it does. Or maybe I’m just trying to justify the fact she’s gorgeous and that’s the main reason I want to say yes.

Attraction is important in a date, right?

She hasn’t said anything, so I say yes and shoot her a quick “hey.” It’s informal, but I’m not sure what else to say.

While I don’t spend my holiday alone, usually picking a girl up somewhere, I’ve never done this dating app thing before and am not sure the protocol to follow.

Now, I just have to wait for her response.

Chapter 4

Valerie

“Hey.”Whatdoesonesay in response? Besides the obvious “hello,” which I already sent. Do I take control, or do I wait for him? I don’t want to seem overly eager, but I don’t want to not continue the conversation and have him back out.

While I’m not sold on the idea of bringing a stranger to my Gram’s house, I need somebody. I cannot stand another year of questions, and Lincoln seems as good as any other guy. Especially if he wears a suit.

Thankfully, he doesn’t leave me hanging for long.

So you need a date for Christmas? Can I ask what the event is?

It’s a party at my Gram’s house. Lots of family. Hope that’s not a deal breaker.

Nah. I’m great with families. They’ll love me ;)

The wink seems a little overly cocky, but I let it slide.

I won’t be keeping you from your own if you join me, will I?

Is that too personal of a question? He’s clearly signed up for a reason, but I want to make sure I’m not actually going to be detracting from his time with his own family. Maybe they have to work, or maybe he just doesn’t want to be around them, but part of me needs to know.

Nope. All good. And what’s this if? I thought we were a done deal. You swiped, I swiped. We’re good. Yeah?

You don’t want to know more about me first? What if I’m a crazy person?

Meh. It’s one night. And crazy can be fun sometimes.

What does one say in response tothat? And does he mean sexually, because I can guarantee nothing will be happening between us.

If your profile is correct, you like lilies, coffee, books, and your family. Feel free to let me know anything else I need to know before Thursday.

Crap. Is Christmas already three days away? That can’t be right. But a quick glance at the calendar on my phone tells me it is. Do I tell him the story of why I signed up for the app?

No, it feels too soon for that.

Yeah those are the basics at least. And liking coffee may be an understatement. I’ll never turn it down. Any kind, any time of day.

Good to know. So are we saying we met on the app?

Oh goodness. I hadn’t even thought of the fact that we need a backstory. How and where we met and the meet-cute and all that good stuff. I think it’s fine if the relationship is on the newer side of things, but we need a little background information. And, for sure, we need to be on the same page.

Oh…I hadn’t thought about it. But I think no. I don’t want to say I used the app.

How about a coffee shop then? If you drink as much as you say, then that will be believable. Right?

That’s good thinking. I wonder if he’s always quick on his feet like that.
