Knowing the history here, especially since she made several advances while we were dating, Trent throws his arm over my shoulders and tugs me into my side.
“Yeah, just can’t keep my hands off my sexy wife. You remember, Leslie. Right?”
Heat prickles the back of my neck, but I put my shoulders back and stand taller. “Hi, Leila. Nice to see you again.”
“Yeah, uh you too. Sorry again. I wanted to revisit some memories, and this was one of those places. I’ll go now.” She turns to leave but hesitates at the door. Just barely looking over her shoulder, she speaks quietly. “Congratulations on getting married by the way. I hadn’t heard.”
Before either one of us can answer her, thank her, or tell her we’ve been married for almost eight years, she’s gone.
“Well, that was awkward.” His voice is a low rumble as he lowers his hand to my hip.
“It’s because she’s probably still infatuated with you. Or at least, you know, has some sort of crush. Sometimes those don’t go away. Plus, you’re still gorgeous.”
He turns to me and his head jerks back. “Did you just compliment me? You did. Wow, I’m just shocked.” There’s a touch of teasing to his tone but part of me wonders if it bothers him that he pays me far more compliments than I pay him. “But she’s not still into me, it’s just awkward walking in on two people having amazing sex.”
“Speaking of, want to leave and finish what we started?” I move to stand in front of him and run my fingers up his chest.
A smile pulls up the corners of his mouth, and he runs his hands up my biceps. “While I’d love nothing more, I want you to get the most out of this reunion. Which means staying here at least a little longer. At the very least enjoy the free drinks.”
“Oh, so you just want to get me drunk.”
His brows pull together. “Absolutely. You’re way more fun when you’re drunk.” He leans into my ear. “Plus, you let me do far dirtier things to you when you’re drunk.”
A shiver runs down my spine, and he laughs at my reaction. Trent has always known how to make me putty in his hands.
“Okay. More drinks and socializing it is.” Though the socializing part is something I’d rather avoid, especially now that I’m sure Leila told at least a few people she caught us down here, it’s what tonight is all about.
So, I let Trent lead me out of the band room and back up to the gym.
Chapter 24
Thenightandmydrink count got away from me. And Trent.
Leaning against him, I giggle at nothing as we wait outside for Chip and the one taxi in town. Chip was a few years younger than me, and he’s set up the sole ride share service in town.
We’re not the only people he’s been carting around tonight.
My eyelids are heavy, and my whole body feels fuzzy. Especially my teeth, which I run my tongue over.
“Thank you for making me come to this.” My words are only a touch slurred.
“You’re welcome. I told you that you’d have a good time.”
“Tomorrow though. Tomorrow is the big deal. And I’m nervous people are going to be mean to me.”
“Not when you’re with me they won’t be. And remember, you’re perfect in my eyes, no matter what, so don’t worry about that word anymore. My perfect wife. Perfect. That word sounds funny.” He chuckles and sways as headlights pull into the parking lot.
The old school minivan pulls up in front of us, and Chip hops out to run around and open the back door of the car. “Hello there. I’m Chip, I’ll be your chauffeur this evening.” He tucks one arm behind his back as he holds the door open.
“Why thank you, kind sir.” I curtsey and giggle as I climb into the van. Trent smacks my ass, and I whip around with a smile on my face.
Then I hiccup. Oh boy. This night is going to do me in. It’s been ages since I’ve been drunk. There’s just no time or ability with three kids.
The door to the van slams shut, and I lean into Trent.
“I’m going to do very dirty things to you when we get back to the Inn.”
“Trent!” I smack at his chest while heat unfurls in mine. It’s that moment I notice the smirk on Chip’s face. Being the town cabby, he surely sees a lot of drunk people, and probably a lot of drunk and horny people.
