“Probably cause he got money,” another man simpered. “You know they treat people with money different.”

“That’s fucked up! I wanna talk to somebody in charge!” she spat as Logic and Tyler walked past her like royalty.

“Bitch, pick yo titties up before someone trips on that saggy shit,” Tyler spat as they stepped through the white doors that closed behind them.

Al didn’t speak. He didn’t know what to say because nothing he said was going to make the moment any lighter. He couldn’t say that everything was going to be ok because they didn’t know. Did he have faith? Yes, but having faith meant believing that God was going to do what was best and sometimes those decisions weren’t meant to be understood.

The second Logic turned the corner, the brim of his eyes pooled with tears. His sisters were holding onto Ms. G for dear life as Duce and Pearl stood close to them. When the twins' eyes landed on their big brother, they jumped up and raced over to him.

Crying, the twins buried their faces into Logic’s shirt as he rubbed their backs and kissed the top of their heads. No words were spoken as he silently gathered his composure. He knew they needed to hear words of reassurance, but he had none to give. Logic didn’t know Sage’s condition, and as soon as he opened his mouth to ask, he heard a loud commotion coming from behind him. Turning around, he spotted Pepper being led down the hall by John and a nurse who was struggling to hold her up. Pepper was crying, stomping her feet, and asking God to spare her baby’s life.

Without warning, Spice pulled away from her brother and charged the dramatic woman as if she wasn’t her mother.

“This is your fault,” Spice screamed, grabbing the neck of Pepper’s shirt. “You did this to him,” she cried, trying to claw at her mother’s face.

“Spice, no,” Pearl pleaded, running over to contain the child since everyone else was in shock. Spice was crying and swinging on her mother while Pepper tried to escape from her grip. When John reached out to touch Spice, Logic snapped out of his trance and ran over to them.

“Lo-” John’s eyes doubled in size as Logic’s large fist met the side of his face, and it didn’t stop there. He kept swinging.

“Aye bro, chill.” Al and Duce tried to hold Logic back while Tyler and Pearl held onto the twins, who were still trying to attack their mother.

The chaotic, emotional scene had Ms. G reaching for pearls she didn’t own. Security guards and police officers stormed the hallway, demanding that the family stop before they started arresting people.

“Logic,” Tyler pleaded. “You’re hurt, but you gotta stop so they’ll stop,” she begged from the other side of the hallway. Shugg was bending her fingers back, trying to get to her mother, and Tyler was tempted to let her wild ass go.

“Is this the family of Sage Peterson?” The doctor’s voice stopped everyone in their tracks. Logic spun around to face them. Quietly, he searched the doctor's face for an answer to the only question he had. Breaking loose from Al, Logic approached the doctor, standing inches away from his face.

“I’m his brother.”

“And I’m his mother!” Pepper screamed. “The hospital called me! His mother!”

"They called you because you were the last number he dialed." Logic bursted her bubble.

“Ma’am, if you can’t control yourself, we’re going to ask you to leave,” an officer warned.

“Just let me check on my baby, the only one who loves me, and then I’ll leave,” Pepper spat, fixing the collar of her stretched out shirt.

“Mr. Peterson was brought in with three gunshot wounds,” the doctor explained. “One to the chest, one to the abdomen, and one to the leg. He lost a lot of blood and coded on the table three times. Mr. Peterson suffered a collapsed lung, bowel perforation, and the bullet to the leg nicked his femoral artery.”

“Oh my god,” Pepper cried out, falling into John.

“We’ve done everything we can do,” the doctor confirmed. “Right now he’s breathing with the help of a ventilator, and if he makes it through the night, we’ll move forward with scheduling surgeries.

“Oh no.” Pepper shook her head. “I don’t want my baby hooked up to all that shit. Tubes and needles all in his body. Take him off the ventilator.”

“Are you smoking dope?” Logic glared at her. “You telling them to unplug my fucking brother?” He thundered with spit flying from his mouth.

“And he’s my son.”

“Bro, get the fuck outta my face with that shit.” Logic waved her off, turning to face the doctor. “When can I see him?”

“Let me be clear. We are not at the point of withdrawal of care; in fact, we’ve gone over and beyond to save his life. Right now he’s being transported to the ICU, and once he’s stable, I can have the nurse bring you back two at a time. Underthese taxing circumstances, I highly suggest that only immediate family visit him at this time.”

“I’m going first,” Pepper blurted.

“I’m about to karate chop this fake ass Naomi Campbell in the throat,” Pearl whispered, saying what everyone else was thinking. “She pissing me off.”

“Nah, you can leave.” Logic snorted. “The twins and I will go together, and after that, yall can stop the visitations for the night. I don’t want anyone that’s not a doctor entering his room.”
