September was quickly rolling into October, and winter was knocking on fall’s door. It was cold, drizzling, and Logic would’ve preferred to be in the house, but he had a shit load of things to accomplish. After dropping two songs from his upcoming album, the streets were buzzing. Producers and other artists were reaching out to work with him, but Logic wasn’t interested. He knew for a fact that Al had previously reached out to a few of them and they played him to the left. The same artists who were in his DM’s had open tabs with Duce, and until they were settled, Logic didn’t have shit for them.

Then there were his siblings. The twins wanted to transfer schools because people were always in their faces asking forpictures, and a few teachers had even passed them their mixed tapes to pass along to Logic. It was unprofessional, but they didn’t care. Everyone was looking for a plug or a come up and the people who were supposed to teach them weren’t any different. As if that wasn’t enough, Sage was moving funny. Every time he came home from spending the weekend with Pepper, his whole mood changed. He stayed in his room for days, he snapped on his sisters for the littlest things, and his grades were taking a hit. Sage was a straight-A student, but his teachers reached out to Logic several times about missing assignments. When Logic talked to him about it, Sage swore he had forgotten and would talk to his teachers to make it up.

“This is good weather.” Ms. G deeply inhaled the cool, crisp air. “I come out here at the crack of dawn and get all the morning action.”

“Ah, you out here being nosey?” Logic teased.

“Nosey implies I’m going looking for the mess, these people do the mess right in front of me.” She turned up her nose. “Look.” She pointed at a young woman across the parking lot. “Nae-Nae send her kids to school every morning, come back, kisses her man goodbye, and then boom.” Ms. G snapped her fingers as a tall, lanky man approached Nae-Nae. “Her nigga on the side comes through and she slobbing him down with the same lips she kissed her family with. They be in there all day. By the time her kids come home, he’s gone, and the kids got Happy Meals. I mean at least the babies get something out of the deal. Trina lil hoe ass be fucking for free and then asking people to borrow loaves of bread, packs of noodles, and hot dogs. That’s a whole meal and she needs to be ashamed. Over there laying on her back for free. Shittttt, couldn’t be me. How the fuck you gone borrow bread? What happens when I want my shit back?”

“You be wanting your bread back?” Logic asked, messing with her.

“Hell yea! I get the good bread too, not that Dollar Tree shit,” Ms. G snorted. “Look.” She nodded her head toward Trina standing outside in a pair of booty shorts, flirting with the Amazon delivery driver. “Friendly ass lil girl.”

“Hell nah,” Logic laughed. “You see all that from here?”

“Here and the kitchen window,” Ms. G snickered.

“I might be a lil nosey.”

“Just a little, huh?” He cocked his head to the side.

“Anyway, how are things going? I’ve been hearing good things about you.” She bumped his knee. “They saying you’re the next best thing coming out of Detroit.”

“Oh yea?” Logic grinned.

“Yea.” Ms. G sipped her coffee. “I’m really proud of you.”

“I appreciate you.”

“I know, so lay it on me. When are you moving?”

“Moving?” He cocked his head to the side.

“Yea. As sad as I'm going to be, it’s time for you and these babies to get outta here. This was never your final destination, and now that your name is ringing bells, it's time to go. I’d hate for one of these hating ass niggas to mess up your future before you really enjoy the fruits of your labor.”

“I hear you.” Logic nodded, taking in her words. “I have some things in motion,” he admitted. “And I’m not going to lie, I feel guilty.”

“Guilty about what?”

“Shit, leaving my people. Al, Duce...you.”

“Boy, we’ll be here, and you know Al is going to be right behind you. Get them babies out of here. There’s nothing wrong with moving on. You’re supposed to grow, and if Al and Duce are your circle, they’ll understand. More importantly, they’ll grow with you. Why would you sit at a table you’ve outgrown, and baby you’ve outgrown these projects.”

“You gone come with me?”

“Boy.” Ms. G blushed. “Don’t ask me that like I won’t pop these teeth out and show you a thing or two. We won’t be roommates if I come, we’ll be lovers.”

“Nah, I’m saying. You’re the closest thing I have to family and shit, you might as well come on too.”

Ms. G reached out and stroked Logic’s cheek before smiling at him. His offer to take her out of the hood was more than what any of her kids offered. As soon as they were of legal age, Ms. G’s kids left and never looked back. Her oldest son came to visit, but it was only because his wife’s family still lived in Detroit.

“As much as I would love that, KP is my home. I gave birth here, I’ve lost the love of my life here, and I raised my kids here. I’m not leaving, but you can always come back and visit.”

“I get it, but the offer will always stand.”

“Thank you.”

“You got something for me?” Logic quizzed.
