“Fine by me.” He grinned. “I feel as if I’ve been starving myself of you for years.” That wasn’t quite right. “Now I can hold you, I want to feast on as much as I possibly can.”
Georgie laughed. “Feast huh? I’m not sure how I feel about being likened to food.”
He squirmed. He’d never had a way with words. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed each finger. “You didn’t have any complaints when I feasted on you last night.”
She fanned herself. “Good point. How about we have an appetiser before the pizza arrives?”
Matt was more than happy to oblige. “As you wish.”

Georgie didn’t want to go to work on Monday morning. She’d spent a blissful twenty-four hours cocooned in her unit with Matt and she wasn’t ready to emerge yet. She scowled as she made them both sandwiches while Matt washed their breakfast dishes.
“You keep poking your bottom lip out like that and I’ll suck on it.” Matt patted her bottom as he reached for the tea towel.
“Promises, promises.” She rolled her eyes even as her body heated. “Want to play hookey?”
Before he could answer, her phone rang and when she answered, Declan said, “Can you come straight to the fire station?”
Georgie frowned. So much for playing hookey. “Sure. What’s up?”
“Training. The whole department is doing a refresher. Fire-fighting is one of the tasks of a park ranger.”
He’d mentioned that, but the timing of the training was a little suspect. “Do we train often?”
“A couple of times a year.”
She glanced at Matt. “Is it a full day?”
“Yeah.”
Convenient. “I’ll see you soon.” She hung up and turned to Matt. “Looks like I’m staying in town today. Training at the fire station.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Fire fighting?”
“Yeah.” Surely if it had been planned, Declan would have mentioned it last week. “Did you have anything to do with this?”
“No.” He sighed. “But Nhiari might have. She was going to have a word to Declan so he could tell his team to keep an eye out.”
She didn’t like the idea of any of her colleagues running into the main guy.
“Are you heading out now?” Matt asked as he hung the tea towel over the oven door handle.
“Yeah. Will you come back tonight?” She clenched her hand to stop biting her fingers.
“Didn’t we agree I would?”
“It’s not fair for you to keep driving back and forth.”
“One of us will always have to if we’re going to make this work.” He kissed her. “I don’t mind.”
She smiled. “All right. You’ll need to get a bigger bed if I’m staying out at the Ridge with you.”
“Then I’ll see you for dinner,” he said.
Georgie locked her apartment and then drove the short distance to the fire station. Declan and Penelope were already there. She wandered over to them. “You won’t get many fires out on the ocean,” she said to Penelope.
“When there’s a fire, it’s all hands on deck,” Declan said.
