She put her hand on his chest. It would be too easy to forgive him if he held her. They needed to work this out. “So why haven’t you told them?”

He ran a hand through his hair. “I don’t know.”

She waited, studying him.

He met her gaze. “You deserve better than me.”

What? “Are you serious?” Where had this come from? She hadn’t seen this insecurity from him since they were kids.

He nodded.

Her own concerns were brushed aside as she stepped forward, holding both his hands. “How can I deserve more than an amazing man who loves me?”

Matt frowned, confusion crossing his face.

“You are everything I deserve; a sexy, hardworking man who loves his friends and family, and who challenges and loves me.”

He shifted away. “Look around, Georgie. All I own is right here. You deserve someone who can give you the world.”

Georgie snorted. “I don’t want the world. I want you. I don’t have much either, but we can build on that together.”

He fidgeted so she cut him some slack. “Is that what you’re worried about—that Darcy will think you can’t provide for me?” It was such old-fashioned thinking.

He shrugged. “It’s got to be confronting for him.”

She could work with this. “OK, let me call Faith and Amy over. You do up your pants.” She smiled as she dialled the house number and Amy answered. “Can you and Faith come out to the shearers’ quarters without the boys?”

“Sure. What’s up?”

“I’ll tell you when you get here.” She hung up and glanced at Matt. “Ready?”

He nodded and pulled her close. “I’m not ashamed about us.” He kissed her. “I want to be with you.”

And she wanted this too much to let his reluctance to tell her brothers ruin what they had.

“Georgie?” Amy called.

Matt squeezed her hand. “I’ve got this.” He opened the door. “She’s in here.”

Amy and Faith moved inside and Matt shut the door behind them. It was a bit of a squeeze with them all in the small room, but Matt slipped past them to stand next to Georgie.

“What’s going on?” Faith asked.

Matt slipped his hand into Georgie’s and she grinned. Amy’s mouth dropped open. “You’re finally together.”

Georgie nodded, and Matt said, “Yeah.”

Amy squealed and hugged them both. “I’m so pleased for you.”

Faith shook her head. “I had no idea. How did I not know?”

“I didn’t know until this week,” Matt joked.

“We’re a little worried about how Brandon and Darcy will react,” Georgie said when the hugging was done.

Faith and Amy exchanged a glance. “I can’t see why they’d be upset,” Amy said.

“Darcy was always really protective of Georgie,” Matt answered. “Especially when she went to uni.”
