“Give it a rest, DeLaurentis. I’m not wearing the shorts.”
Not for him, anyway. I might wear them for Piper.
He shrugs. “Have it your way.”
“The real question is this,” Reid says loudly. “Are you going to break out those moves after we beat Georgia’s ass tomorrow?”
Another raucous cheer goes up from around the locker room and when the noise dies down, all eyes are on me.
For the first time, it hits me that after tomorrow, these guys won’t be my teammates anymore. Most of us will never play football again, and even the ones who are lucky enough to get drafted aren’t likely to play together.
It’s a bittersweet realization.
I always knew this day would come, but I never stopped to consider how I’d feel when it arrived.
“Well?” Reid asks, that million-dollar smile aimed in my direction.
What the hell.
“If we clinch the title tomorrow, I’ll give you a show you’ll never forget.”

“Get out of the way!”
The cab driver leans on the horn and forces his way into the next lane. I clutch the door handle more tightly, praying I’m not about to become a cautionary tale.
“It’s been like this all week.” He gestures to the snarling traffic with both hands, and my heart skips a beat. “I’ll be glad when this championship game is over.”
I give silent thanks I’m not currently wearing Waverly gear.
No need to poke the bear.
I check the time on my phone. “How much longer do you think it’ll take to get to the hotel?”
“If it weren’t for this mess, we’d be there already.” He drums his fingers on the steering wheel. “Maybe another fifteen or twenty minutes.”
Dammit. I’d hoped to surprise Brady at the team hotel, but I’m going to be cutting it close.
Too close.
There weren’t many flight options and the early departure was twice as much as the afternoon one, so I decided to chance it, which was clearly the wrong decision.
Where are the last-minute getaway deals when you need one?
I pull out my phone and text Jenna.
Me: Made it to Miami in one piece. Not sure I’ll be able to say the same for the hotel…
Three little dots appear on the screen.
Jenna: Should I be worried?
Me: No. Just a losing round of cabbie roulette. I’m sure it’ll be fine.
Probably.
