Sanaa smiled. “Sure, Mom. Truce, would you like some more Bourbon?”

“No, thank you.”

“You sure? I hear it’s really good and aged.” She winked and smiled.

He said, “No,” bitch.

“Maybe another time. I don’t like to drink too much and drive.”

“Okay.” She grinned at him and left the room.

Ms. Sheila looked at me. “I’m so sorry about that, Jela. She can be a little over-the-top sometimes.”

“If she doesn’t stop flirting with my sister’s friend and throwing shade, I’ma be onhertop,” Jas said, coming from the back with Scottlyn all wrapped up and ready to go.

“Jasmine, knock it off!” Mommy warned her as I tightened my lips to not laugh.

“Nah, Mommy. Sanaa does too much, and you know it. I’m sorry, Ms. Sheila, but don’t invite her back over her no more. We don’t fool with her like that after she tried to sleep with my sister’s man two years ago. Although I believe he smashed anyway.”

“Jasmine Shanae!” Mommy yelled as her colleagues snickered.

“What? I’m just telling the truth.”

“I think it’s time for us to go,” Truce said and stood, putting on his coat. I shook my head at my crazy-ass sister as I went to grab my coat from the front closet.

Sanaa emerged from the kitchen and said, “I heard you in here talking about me, Jasmine. For the record… I didn’t sleep with Damien.”

“I wanted you to hear me, whoremonger. And that has yet to be determined.”

“Okay, enough, Jasmine.” Mommy scolded her as I stood with a smile on my face.

One thing my sister was going to do was call somebody out on their bullshit. It was why Damien hated her. She would read his ass, and then he’d manipulate me, telling me she was jealous of our relationship.

God, I was such a damn fool.

“Bring me my Sweet Pea so I can kiss her goodnight,” my mom requested, and Jas handed her over as my mom smothered her with kisses. I took my baby and did the same.

“I’m going to miss you, my Scottie Pie. You be good for your Auntie Jasmine, okay?”

“Jaime! Yayyy!”

“I just love her!” Jasmine beamed.

“A’ight, a’ight! Stop treating my baby like a hot potato.” Truce laughed.

Your baby?

“Come here, Chunks. Show Uncle some love.” Scottlyn fled from my arms into his, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I love you, mamas. You be good, okay?” Scottlyn smiled widely at him. Turning to Jas, he said, “We’ll walk out with y’all. It was nice meeting everyone. Mrs. Draya, the food was great. Thank you for the invite and top-tier hospitality. I look forward to seeing you again.” He took her hand and kissed the back of it as Mommy smiled at him.

“Always. Safe travels back home, sweetie.”

“Thank you,” Truce responded.

“Hey… Next time you’re in town, would you like to go out for drinks? My treat,” Sanaa said before we could leave.

Truce turned and smiled at her. “I’ll think about it.”

“Here. Put your number in my phone and call me whenever you’re back.”
