Just thinking about that made Butch’s stomach roll. Was he really that much older than Rocky? Fuck, he was eighteen years older than she was. Made him feel like a dirty old man.
“Where’s Trey?” he asked.
“He’s out in the waiting area waiting for you.”
The doctor stepped into the room. “I’ve got both of your x-rays. I’m glad to say you’re both in the clear, no signs of fractures.”
“That’s great!” Rocky exclaimed as her father hugged her.
“Since your dad is here, I’ll be going,” Butch said as he backed out of the room.
“I’ve got your discharge paperwork,” the doctor said. “He handed a sheaf of papers to Butch. “Just sign the top one, the rest are for you with your care instructions.”
Butch shifted his weight from foot to foot, anxious to get out of the hospital. He took the pen and scrawled his name. Now he could finally get home and try to get rid of this headache.
Chapter Eleven
Rocky
She woke to Kylie staring at her, her arms crossed on her chest and her eyes narrowed. Uh oh, her bestie was pissed.
“What the hell, Rock?” she asked. “You were attacked last night and you didn’t call me?”
She sat up and shrugged her shoulders. “I didn’t want to worry you.”
“Oh my God, your face!” her eyes went wide. “Was it your stalker?” she screeched.
“Yeah,” she said tiredly.
“Did he hit you or what? Is your cheek broken?” Kylie asked as she reached out to take Rocky’s hand.
“He didn’t hit me. That happened when I slipped and hit the fender of his car with my face.”
Kylie winced. “Ouch. Good thing you wear a helmet or you’d scare the fans with that shiner.”
She smiled, her cheekbone throbbing. “Is it really that bad?”
“It’s pretty swollen and you’ve got a good shiner coming on.” Kaylie wrapped her arms around her and hugged her. “I’m sorryfor yelling but shit, Rock, when Trey said you’d been attacked I got scared.” She plopped down next to Rocky on the bed. “What can I do to help?”
“Pain reliever,” she mumbled.
Kylie hurried out of the room and returned with a glass of water and two pills. “Trey said he and Butch happened to walk out of the stadium and see you hit his car. Thank God they were there.”
“Yeah, it could have been a lot worse.” She pressed her fingertips to her cheekbone. “At least it’s not broken.”
“From what Trey said, your stalker looks worse, that Butch hit him more than once.”
“He did, and for some reason he seemed really concerned about me. Pretty weird for a guy who hates me.”
“Are you sure he hates you? Sometimes when he’s looking at you, I see a flash of something else in his eyes.”
“You’re nuts. He wants me off the team.”
Kylie shrugged. “I just call it like I see it.” She got up and headed for the door. “You want some coffee?”
“That’d be great.” Her phone buzzed with a text notification. “Looks like the bail hearing is at two pm. I might feel human by then.”
After a shower and some breakfast, she felt almost normal. She wondered how Butch’s hand felt this morning.
