Zane cackles. “I’m guessing it worked.”
“One look at Chance, and he squealed like a pig.” Rev shakes his head, laughing. “Chance barely made it out of the room before he busted a gut laughing.”
We’re barely onto the parking lot of Sin when Myka is out the side door and jogging to the G-Wagen. When Anjalee pushes open her door, Myka slings her arms around her neck, clinging tight.
“You’re okay,” Myka murmurs. “I was scared for you.”
“They did not even have me one hour,” Anjalee says. “I am unharmed.”
Myka sniffles. “It’s scary. I know—I’ve been there.”
Anjalee hugs her back and then releases her. “You are very sweet, Myka. I am glad we shall be such good friends.”
Myka spots Zane then, coming around the back of the SUV. “Are you a new guy?”
Zane grins. “Nah, just helping out.”
I reach for him, and he grips my hand. “Anything you need, Zane. Anything, any time.”
He claps me on the arm, keeping my hand gripped in his. “Appreciate that, Kane. You ever find yourself up in Alaska, come to our bar in Ketchikan. Badd’s Bar and Grill. Beer’s on us.”
I laugh. “Dude, you and your brother didmethe favor.”
Zane waves a hand. “It was the most excitement I’ve had in years. Happy to help out.” He glances at Anjalee. “Plus, I feel like it’s a moral imperative to rescue beautiful women.”
Anjalee ducks her head. “Thank you again, Zane. I am most grateful.”
Zane cups the side of her bicep. “Just promise me you’ll get this fella to bring you to Ketchikan so I can introduce you to my family.”
“I should like that very much,” Anjalee says.
There’s a faint thumping, and I crane my neck to see a helicopter approaching. I glance at Zane, the question in my eyes.
Zane chuckles, watching the helo approach the parking lot. “Devious little fucker is probably tracking my cell.”
“Your brother is pretty incredible,” I say. “He tracked them down faster than I’d have thought possible.”
Zane nods. “He’s a kinda smart fella,” he says, laughing. “He was doing that kinda shit in high school for fun. Even what he’s doing now, the robots? He’s been making funny little gizmos since he was a teenager. It was actually his now-wife Low who convinced him to start selling them. He legit built his entire corporation from the ground up himself, simply by selling things he put together in his spare time. I have a crate full of them at home, little bots and gizmos and shit. My kids love them.”
The helicopter settles down, then, and it’s quiet enough that we could still carry on a conversation. As it is, he claps me on the shoulder, shakes Rev’s hand, kisses both Anjalee and Myka on the cheek, and then jogs for the helo, climbing in and waving just before closing the door.
Rev whistles as the aircraft rises. “That is one sweet machine.”
Anjalee nods. “I have been in very many helicopters and that is the most luxurious one I have ever seen. It is quite a marvel.”
Then the helo is up and tilting away, and the parking lot is quiet. Rev hauls Myka up against his side, and she angles her chin to his jaw, nuzzles, kisses.
“Glad you came back okay,” she murmurs to him.
“Didn’t do jack shit,” he grumbles. “Not so much as a single punch. Fuckin’ bullshit. Zane took all the fun. And Kane. Kane fuckin’ wrecked that dude six ways to Sunday.”
Myka giggles. “Want me to get kidnapped again so you have something exciting and violent to do?”
Rev growls a laugh. “Yeah, babe. Get on that for me, would you?”
She nuzzles him again. “Of course, honey. Anything for you.”
Anjalee laughs, leaning into me, burrowing under my arm until I’m forced to put my arm over her shoulders and down around her waist. “I for one am glad it was not more exciting. That was very plenty enough of excitement for me.”
