She looked confused. “What? How did that happen because I know Alvin’s ass pressed charges?”

“I asked Rocky the same thing, and he told me I wasn’t ready for that conversation. All I can say is he must have connections. I’m not gon’ worry about it unless I have to.”

“I still can’t believe you came up there and choked that man out in front of all those people. He deserved it, but still.”

“And I’ll do it again to him or anybody else who comes at you crazy.”

“You’re all over social media, baby. I’d be surprised if this dies down quickly.”

I shrugged. “I’ll deal with it. Don’t you worry your pretty little head.”

“I’ll try not to. Oh, Ramina wanted me to talk to you about something.”

“A boy, no doubt.”

“Yes, Rowdy. Someone asked her out on a date, and she wants to go.”

“Nah. These young niggas don’t want shit but pussy.”

“She’s almost eighteen, and she needs to experience dating before she goes to college, while she has the people she loves close by.”

“Can’t they just see each other at school? I mean, what is dating when the end goal is to fuck?”

“Oh my God. You’re ridiculous. Let her go on the date. I’ll find out where she’s going, and we’ll go and hide out in the corner somewhere.”

I thought about it for a minute before finally agreeing.

“Just so you know, I don’t have a problem choking the shit outta young niggas either. I hope he’s on his best behavior.”

“I knowyou didn’t think your brother agreed to this date and didn’t plan on meeting him beforehand,” I told Ramina as she opened the door.

I had only been to Rowdy’s house a few times because he spent the majority of his time at my apartment. Ms. Dawn had invited me over for dinner a few times, and that was the only time I’d visited.

“Oh God. You could’ve warned me. I just got my nerves under control, and now this,” she complained.

“You can cancel this whole thing as far as I’m concerned. Don’t nobody care about your nerves,” Rowdy said.

After helping me out of the car, he’d gotten a phone call from Rocky. While on the phone, he walked around Ramina’s car kicking the tires and looking inside while I went into the house.

“You’re so rude. I wish Mama was here so she could pop you upside the head.”

“I gotchu, Lil Sis.” I tapped the back of Rowdy’s neck.

“Now when I tap you on that juicy ass, I don’t wanna hear no shit,” he teased.

“Whatever. Be nice to the boy, Rowdy. Don’t assume he’s trouble before meeting him,” I told him.

“Nah. I was his age once, I wanted to fuck. I’m not giving him grace at all.”

“Ugh! You’re so annoying.”

The doorbell rang and Ramina rushed toward it but was stopped by her brother.

“Back up.”

“Noelani, can you please control your man?” she pleaded.

“It’s too late now. Let’s just roll with it.”
