“Good. And Beau?”

“Yes?”

“Bring her to dinner. She’ll have to get used to our chaos sooner or later.”

“I’ll talk to her.”

Looks like my bride-to-be and I havea lotto talk about.

I just hope it doesn’t scare her off.

INDIE

JENSEN: Nessa said when you’re feeling up to it we’ll come visit—give you some practice with Remi

JENSEN: Sawyer you can fly in so we can all celebrate together

Iread and reread the messages, my gaze snapping to the top that lists both my brothers instead of just my thread with Jensen.

I never told Sawyer.

Anything.

Shit!

In my defense, my oldest brother has never been really interested in getting to know me. Our nearly ten-year age gap made it harder to connect growing up, and when I was a teenager, he moved to Starlight Bay, Massachusetts for his now ex-girlfriend.

Honestly, not a whole lot has changed, but he shouldn’t have found out this way.

INDIE: I’m going to kill you

SAWYER: Well, that confirms I’m not supposed to be in this message

JENSEN: You didn’t tell him?

JENSEN: It’s not MY fault you didn’t tell him

SAWYER: Well, I guess congratulations are in order

INDIE: Hold on—you get to know the other news first

JENSEN: Hey! That’s bullshit

INDIE: You started it

Heaving out a sigh,I pull up Sawyer’s number and bite back my annoyance when he lets it ring a couple of times before answering.

“Sorry, I was checking on the bees,” he says, and I hear the sound of a door closing in the background. In an instant I’m overcome with the strangest kind of grief—I don’t even know what his house looks like.

“It’s okay,” I whisper. “How are they?”

“They’re good.” He pauses and then adds, “It’s weird I like them, isn’t it?” The chagrin in his voice has a smile tugging at the corner of my lips.

“I think it’s nice you have a hobby.”

“Indie…”
