‘You scared her well enough to accept if that’s what you were asking.’

‘No, that’s not what I was asking,’ still with annoyance in his voice. I thought being the Big Bad Wolf would be an honor for a man in his position and not an offense.

My eyes rolled instinctively. Maybe I just couldn’t put up with his bullshit anymore knowing what lays beneath it, ‘She said we have a window in two days.’

‘Two days!?’ Brax was surprised by how quickly things were coming into place. But also definitely worried.

We shared that same worry since there were onlytwodays separating us from our goal.

‘How do you plan on doing this?’ He quickly recovered from the news.

‘I’ll pretend to return for my old job and just take the letter she indicated. Direct access into the governor’s house.’

‘Bea, I could ask one of the girls from my strip joints to do it.’

‘I bet you could....’ I felt betrayed by all of my kings in one way or the other and imagining Brax surrounded by all his strippers was trailing a bitter line down my soul, splitting it in half.

‘What’s that supposed to mean!?’ His emblazoned gaze covered me in fire darts bringing the backseats of the jeep to incendiary temperatures.

‘What do you really want, Brax?’ I was tired....so completely drained and tired of games and fighting and whatever new obstacle life throws at me every single day.

‘For you to show some fucking respect. That’s what I want!’ He was roaring so loud that the driver felt needed to push the break. ‘Fucking drive!’ Brax roared at him too, making the man speed up to the point he was barely able to stop at a red light. ‘You know what’s your problem, Bea? You need to stop confusing sex with feelings. You’re too fucking naive for your own good.’

Brax was calling out the source of all my misery. He was right. I was letting myself seek affection where there was never a trace of such a thing from any of them.

‘Then maybe you should stop lying to me.’ Every time I pulled myself apart from his influence, he managed to bring me back in. And that night at the pool changed everything in my soul, even if my mind knew the truth— it was the whisky’s effect, and he was just about to admit the same thing to me.

‘I was fucking drunk. That’s why I said you’re naive. You need to stop believing in fantasies and take a good fucking look around. Survival, wealth, and sex. The existential impulses that make people change their entire nature to obtain them.’ Brax was teaching me a lesson. One that he had no intention to stop too soon.

‘I understand, Brax.’ I really did understand and I definitely didn’t need him to spell it out for me in a hundred different languages. ‘Can I call for my car now?’ I wanted to go home to try and sleep my misery away.

But Brax had entirely different plans ‘No,’ he barked picking up his phone and sending out what I believed to be a text.

‘Where are we going?’ I questioned, recognizing the evil sparks gleaming in his eyes. He had every intention of hurting me this time.

‘You’ll know when we get there,’ he opened the minibar and poured a glass of his favorite drink while his lips formed a thin line revealing his level of tension.

Just a few streets later, the car stopped in front of an all-too-familiar place. His club.

 He wouldn’t!

 I hoped. I prayed!

‘Get out of the car,’ he groaned, opening the door on my side and waited for my petrified body to move somehow. ‘I don’t want to drag you out. But you know I can do it,’ he extended a hand which I didn’t take. ‘It’s either your hand or the back of your neck. You decide.’ His words were so menacing I truly believed him capable of dragging me out.

I slipped my trembling hand into his own.

‘Much better,’ he growled helping me get out then showed me towards the club’s entrance.

I knew the path we were following and where the road would end. That’s what was making me pray we would stop in our tracks. ‘Brax, I don’t want to go in there.’

‘I do. I’m tense. And I need something to make me relax,’ he snarled, pushing a door to open.

The room with the glass wall.Only this time, the room in which we were standing was identical to the one behind the glass. A large armchair and a black cushioned table, one of each on both sides, perfectly arranged to mirror the ones in the opposite room.

‘We’re going to play a game tonight,’ Brax came from behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist while whispering in my ear ‘Kind of a mirror action.’ He turned me to face the glass wall, keeping the same position brushing his stubble on the silky skin of my collarbone.

Suddenly the lights went off in our room and the same projector fully illuminated the second chamber, letting a perfectly shaped brunette in. It was not the girl from last time which made me wonder how many employees of her kind Brax had.
