Although Brax’s wound didn’t seem to agree ‘Fuck, ease up on me. It’s not healed yet.’

‘And it’s not going to heal if you don’t take a break,’ Ferris spoke from the couch. I wasn’t sure if he was as worried for Brax as he was for the reason why his wound wasn’t healing.

‘I don’t do brakes,’ Brax laughed putting his phone back in his pocket. ‘So, what are you doing tomorrow, after all?’

‘We leave in the afternoon to get to the resort. I had to get a fucking chef, staff and all.’ Cole barked, irritated once more that he wasn’t getting the royal treatment.

‘Chill, you’re not carrying them there on your back. You only placed a few phone calls,’ Ferris was bringing him back to earth.

‘They only did this to undermine my authority. Camden wants to make sure of who is who and what is what.’

‘I thought you said you were friends?’ I spoke my thoughts out loud.

‘They are, but they’re also jackals,’ Cole grumbled.

‘Nick and Jason, are also jackals. You don’t seem to mind them,’ I shrugged, saying a painfultruth to him.

Though Cole seemed amused, knowing precisely their value ‘They aremyjackals.’

I guess he made a good point there.

‘Are you packed?’ Cole asked, being in charge of the operation‘Party in the Mountains.’

‘More or less. I put a few things in my luggage.’ A few meaning two full shelves of clothes since I couldn’t decide.

‘I want you looking bomb.’

‘Thebombthing again!?’ I began laughing, remembering the job at the Pleasure room when Ace asked for a bomb.

‘I want you to be so bomb that they’ll charge us for terrorism.’ Cole devilishly smiled.

‘He wants to take pride with you by his side. He’s always competing with Camden,’ Ferris spoke as he was approaching me. ‘Come, I’ll pour you a drink.’ Taking me by my waist, he guided me towards a small bar.

‘So what’s been decided we do if we can get dirt on the governor?’ Cole asked, probably thinking of the larger plan.

‘We’ll get everyone to support Ferris as the new governor. Besides being wealthy, he’s also royalty so he’ll have every chance of pulling it off.’ Brax explained the decision he probably made alone. Not that anyone had the power to go against him.

Not even Ferris, who muttered while fixing my glass, ‘Fuck you and your ideas, Brax. This will only be temporary. An emergency measure until we find someone we could trust.’

‘You’ll need to get rid of your piercings,’ I spoke, knowing his rebellious look wouldn’t go down too well with the politician’s chair.

‘I thought you liked my piercings,’ Ferris flashed me his tongue, seductively playing with the metal between his teeth.

I didn’t answer, just took a sip out of my drink.

A loooong sip, keeping the glass to my lips until their gazes moved away, giving me some time off.

‘Hmmm. Ferris as the governor. It’s like replacing one psychopath with another,’ Cole commented as a joke. Though in a way, he was telling the truth.

‘Better say your prayers then. I may make a law to put you, and your jackals in the zoo.’ Ferris seemed in a really good mood. A stingy good mood.

‘You’ll need to put him into the pussycats cage,’ Brax stepped in, making both of them laugh.

Men and their jokes.

‘Don’t worry, Mouse. I’ll still keep the piercing,’ Cole turned his attention towards me in the worst way possible. Not that anyone asked him in the first place.

‘I’m fine, thank you,’ I downed my drink between the men’s laughter. I wasn’t sure if it was from the atmosphere or from the glass of alcohol I drank in less than five minutes, but it was getting hot in the room. ‘I need to step outside,’ I breathed, pushing the balcony doors apart and stepping out to catch a breath of fresh air.
