I am so furious at dec, though. It would serve him right if I did so something with Onzo. The way he spoke to me, I never knew that he could be like that. He was awful.

I walk over to the table and sit down. “Hey.”

He looks up and grins at me, those white teeth showing. “Sophie, you came! I am not going to lie, I had my doubts you were going to show up.”

I shrug, forgetting until now how sexy his broken English was.

 “What do you want?”

He frowns. “Don’t be like that. At least give me a chance. What drink do you want?”

I give him my order, and he goes off to get it at the counter. I take the opportunity to check my phone, thinking Dec might have text me to apologise, nothing. Well, fuck him. If I were petty, which I'm not, but you know, it's tempting, I would go home with Onzo and screw his brains out, but that would kind of mean that Dec was right, and I do not want him to be right about this.

Onzo walks back with my coffee, and I smile. I can be civil. It's not like he declared undying love and cheated on me. It was only ever casual between us two. I'm surprised he gave me a second thought since it happened, to be honest.

“How have you been? You have been good?” he asks as he puts my coffee in front of me.

 “Good, thanks. How about you?”

“I've not been so good.” He shakes his head and looks at me from under those long dark eyelashes of his.

 “Oh, why?”

“I did not like the way things were left between us, Sophie. I did not like that you think I mistreated you. I was a little hurt that you could cut me off as quickly as you did.”

I lean back in my chair. “Come on, it was never serious with us. We barely even went on a date.”

His eyes light up. “That is what I intend on changing. Between us. We will date, yes?”

I shake my head, “No Onzo, we’re done.”

He frowns. “No, you don’t understand. I am moving here. We can date, and I can look after you.”

I sit up in my chair. “Wait, what? Your moving here? How come?”

“I applied for a job here and was accepted and thought that if you knew I was serious, you would give me a chance. Maybe I could be your boyfriend.”

I can't hide the shock from my face. “I can't believe that you thought that much about me.”

“Of course I did, I do. I want us to be together. Ever since I last came to the UK, I cannot stop thinking about you. I want you to be mine.”

This takes me totally by surprise. I never thought anything would come of him and me, not for a second.

I put my hand on his. “Onzo, how can you move away from Dom? You are like family.”

His eyes darken. “Dom and I have fallen out. We are not speaking.”

 “Why not?”

He shakes his head, “It does not matter.”

I shake my head. “I'm sorry, Onzo, but no, we can’t be anything now. Whatever we had, it's done. I never wanted anything serious.”

That’s the truth. I didn’t want anything serious with Onzo. I'm always saying that Mr Perfect is out there for me, that I'm going to meet the man of my dreams but hook up with guys like him. What does that tell me? Maybe I'm not serious about meeting my dream guy.

“I am not asking you to promise yourself to me. I just want to go on a date? Let me take you out and spoil you.”

I shake my head, “Sorry babe, so sorry, but no, I don’t think we're a good fit.”
