I knew I loved to be amongst the trees, hence the décor of my chambers. The song confirmed it when it showed me running in a forest.
But why?
A gust of wind swirled around the balcony, rustling in my hair.
“Have I created a terrible creature by making him my thrall?” I asked myself aloud.
Only time would tell.
A better choice would be to put him down like the rabid beast he was. But he harbored secrets I needed to uncover.
When my kin got wind of him, I’d face displeasure. Especially seeing as he’d killed two vampires in one night. The Heart of All ached from their loss, a pain that would never leave me.
Every loss hurt. Every loss took something from me.
Then kill the shining elf.
If only it were that simple. And what if he was the solution to my broken memories? I wouldn’t throw away this potential hope.
Such a bitter paradox locked inside a pretty shell, and one I must exploit.
Medusa slithered onto the balcony.
I greeted her without moving. “Did you feed well?”
She wrapped herself around my legs, climbing me, hissing her satisfaction.
“I’m glad,” I answered, eyes on the swath of stars in the inky darkness above.
Who are you, Lucius? Why are you now in my head?
I spent an hour trying to see beyond his name, getting nowhere.
With sunrise hours away, I returned inside, finding Paris curled in a ball on the bathroom floor, sleeping beside the toilet.
At least he’d flushed his vomit away.
Medusa hissed her curiosity, her tongue tasting the air.
“He’s a new pet,” I told her. “Be wary of him.”
If he laid one finger on her, I’d take off his arms.
Kill him now. Spare yourself future pain.
Maybe I should end him while he slept. A quick, easy death to stop murder in its tracks.
But I sat down, watching him sleep. He stank of sweat, cum, and perfume. The aroma of his honey blood lingered in the air and on my tongue. No matter the hate I felt for him, my own curiosity won out.
As did my hope.
“Are you my hope, Paris Raine?”
His chest rose and fell, as beautiful in sleep as he was awake.
“Or are you my doom?”
