“Is that a real word?”
I giggled, rubbing my neck with false shyness, laying it on thickly. “Now it is.” More giggles. “I’m so embarrassed I met you this way.”
No response from him, only more staring. My left eye twitched, my toes curling in my shoes.
Can you stop looking at me like that?
A knock sounded on the door.
Damn. I’d blown it. I’d made a bad first impression and he didn’t want an elf who rolled around on bathroom floors.
Whatever. I’d come up with a plan B. I wouldn’t let him slip through my fingers. If this didn’t end tonight, then when?
Silvanus turned his head slightly, finally tearing his gaze off me. “Yes?”
“Is everything well, Your Majesty?” Layla asked on the other side.
“Open the door.”
The door opened, the vampire joining us, awaiting orders as she glanced between us.
“Is the room prepared?” the king said, authority vibrating in his tone.
“Yes, Your Majesty. Would you like me to escort you there?”
Those royal ruby orbs returned to me. “No. But make sure we are not disturbed.”
By Aidan. By his holy name. This was working. Hedidwant me, and he’d take me up to his room for what he believed to be sexy time.
Man, I could practically taste the new world. And it’d be better than any caramel shortbread.
The other vampire bowed and left the bathroom, leaving the door open.
Music pounded, the king stared.
Oh, the fanged and silent type was he?
After about thirty seconds, I tried breaking this weird stalemate. “Shall we go, Your Majesty?”
He folded his arms across his chest. “For you to give me your blood.”
“Yeah. My blood. Don’t you want my blood?” My turn to speak with a purr, sliding a hand across my belly. I teased the band of my underwear. “And maybe something else?”
He didn’t look down. “The blood of a beautiful elf.”
I dipped my head, looking up at him through my lashes. “I’m beautiful?”
The sooner I got to be violent, the better.
“Incredibly so,” he answered.
More staring and silence followed.
“Shall we?—”
He kicked the door shut behind him with a terrific bang.
Uh-oh.
