“You!” I scream as I come.

He grunts at the same time, and I feel him come inside me. My head falls onto his shoulder as he continues to move. I try to catch my breath as his rhythm slows, and when he stops, he leans me back, pulls off our masks—so fast I’m pretty sure he took some hair with it—and slams his lips to mine.

He takes my breath away—literally.

He inhales me, as a good husband should do.

And I let him.

I give him my all, and it’s the freest and most secure I have ever felt in my life. Pulling apart our now-bruised lips, he places me on my feet and smiles.

“Ready to finish the Hunt so I can take you back to our place and fuck you all night?”

“Yes,” I say as I pick up the axe. I walk over to Deven and smile down at him, not even bothering with my clothes. “I think it’s time for me to put an end to this story, Deven.”

“You are so fucked-up,” he grits out.

“Do you think it’s smart to talk smack to me?” I ask him, shaking my head.

“You’re fucking naked and holding an axe, you crazy bitch.”

I laugh at his words. “Yeah, I guess I am.” I lift the axe and swing it down in one swift movement. The blade sinks into his chest, and a loud, delightful crack echoes through the forest at the impact.

Deven’s eyes go wide before they drop down to stare at the axe.

“Someone’s coming. Get dressed,” Reon whisper-shouts as he comes over, takes the handle of the axe and pulls it hard so it slides out of Deven’s chest, and blood spatters everywhere. Deven falls back to the forest floor. I turn to find my clothes—it’s easier to see when the moon is fuller—but I find them fairly quickly.

Once I’m dressed, Reon tosses me my mask. “Put it on so no one recognizes you.” I do as he says, and then he grabs my hand and pulls me in the direction from which we came. When we get to the car, I note that two other cars are parked. I don’t recognize either vehicle, but I do know the person who steps out of one of them.

Soren.

Of course, it is. He’s back.

His gaze zeroes in on Reon before moving to me, then the axe in Reon’s hand that still has blood on it.

Someone steps out of the second car. Arlo. He stays back near the car, not joining the conversation.

“Are you not going to say hello, Lilith?”

“We were leaving,” Reon says, tugging me with him.

Soren shakes his head and makes a sound. “But I have a few questions for Lilith. I let you do what others would never dream of doing.” Soren eyes me.

“This is my land as much as it’s yours,” Reon says. “You come out here on your own without notifying the rest of us. Don’t think we don’t know about that, Soren.” Reon nods to Arlo. “Arlo comes out here, too. Last time, he fucked his fling so hard somehow that the knife slipped and stabbed her. Right, Arlo?”

Arlo remains silent but grins and arches a brow.

“Do you remember Keenan?” Soren asks, and my body freezes at my father’s name.

“What does that have to do with anything?” Reon asks.

I turn to Reon, then reach for the mask and pull it off.

Soren shoots me a sinister smile, then says, “Ask your wife.”

Reon’s grip on my hand tightens, and I remain frozen at his side.

“I’ll do no such thing. Now, move your fucking car and stop blocking me in.”
