“What if you had someone there to protect you?” He pushed off the counter and when he took a step forward, the comforting scent of his cologne mixed with the coffee.

I bit back a smile. “Nope. Still not happening.” I put my hands up in front of me. When he smirked, I couldn’t help but mirror it. Behind us, the coffee pot sputtered, but I couldn’t smell the rich scent anymore because of the tension in the room.

Miles stood in front of me, staring at me until I felt his stare like a physical touch on my skin. It was like the longer he stared, the stronger the imaginary magnetic pull between us got. He took a small step toward me, and the room got warmer. “Do you want some coffee?” he asked while the space between us disappeared.

“I’m suddenly not very thirsty.” My tongue felt thick, and my mouth was dry. The longer we stood there, the more I considered that I should’ve chosen the wine. He ran his finger over the top of my shoulder and down the side of my arm. As he did, it left a trail of static behind.

“I don’t want any either,” he said. A dry giggle clawed its way from my throat, and I stood there staring at him until the static between us felt like heat and the sudden confidence I was overcome with felt like need.

For a moment, Miles and I stood there staring at each other, and I was convinced he could feel the same need. The longer we stood there, the closer we floated toward each other until I inhaled his sigh. When his hand moved to my hip, it was like a button that caused my lips to part with an expectant pout. Our eyes met, and he held my gaze while his eyes darkened. Then he kissed me, and my arms drifted lazily to wrap around his neck.

Miles tasted like chance and something new with a hint of sweetness. Halloween candy maybe? I smiled, tightening myhold on him and running my tongue along his to deepen the kiss. As his tongue swirled around mine, I didn’t care that my sister was going to rub it in my face tomorrow. All I wanted was another taste of his satisfied sigh until he broke the kiss.

“Come with me.” Miles took my hand, leading me in my just-kissed haze down the hallway toward his bedroom. My legs tingled with anticipation, and my body begged me to keep walking, following each step closely.

In his room, he kicked the door shut, backing me against it with his stare. I held my breath while he leaned forward, planting his hand against the door and framing me between him and the cold wood. When he gave me a slow once over, I shivered. “What are you looking at?” I asked breathlessly.

“This beautiful woman looking at me like she’d let me devour her.” His voice rumbled, and I swallowed the sudden arousal that flooded me. When he pressed his lips to the soft spot on my neck beneath my ear, my legs locked. “How long as it been?” he asked, his lips hovering over my ear. His breath tickled, and I shivered.

“What?” I asked breathlessly.

He hooked his finger under my chin, pulling my gaze to his. “I heard the palm reader. How long has it been since the last time someone made you come?” Miles watched me like he was counting the number of nervous breaths I took before I answered. “Oh, come on. Don’t be shy. Tell me.” He put his hands on my hips. His touch was gentle but demanding, and I released my breath in a heavy exhale that didn’t rid me of the embarrassment.

I looked down slightly then back up at him with my head still tilted. “You can’t be serious.” He wanted to talk about this now? My cheeks were warm, and I hoped that the dim lighting in his room hid the blush on my cheeks. His smirk made me think that it didn’t.

“Tell me,” he repeated. He tightened his hold on my hips, and I felt his muscles flexing through his sweater when my hands moved to his biceps. Then he lowered his voice, and it was husky—almost gravelly.Like he was a different person.“Tell me how long it’s been, and I’ll make all of that change right now.”

I closed my eyes.I can’t believe I’m doing this.“It’s been thirteen months,” I whispered. “At least.”

When Miles lifted me, I wrapped my legs around him. He moved the quick steps to his bed, dropping me back on the mattress. “There’s one thing that palm reader was right about,” he said, hovering over me.

“What was that?” My voice was breathless when he lifted the hem of my sweater, and I arched my back off the bed to help it glide more easily along my skin. He tossed it behind him before tracing his finger between my breasts and over my stomach.

“I’m going to make you come harder than you ever have before.” He unbuttoned my jeans and unzipped them as quickly as I gasped, and his words settled between my legs.

“That’s not what she said.” The words clung to my throat, trapped behind the growing need I couldn’t swallow. He tugged at my jeans, and I lifted my hips.

When he dropped my jeans behind him, I felt exposed, lying on his bed in just cotton panties and a bra. “That’s what’s going to happen though,” he said, working at his belt. I didn’t have time to question what made him so confident before he pushed his jeans past his hips and showed me.

I was breathless when he pulled his sweatshirt over his head, and his muscles flexed when he crawled back onto the bed. He reached under me, unhooking my bra. His mouth followed the straps off my shoulders as he made his way to my nipples, stealing my attention before the fabric landed in the pile with the rest of our clothes.

“How are you so confident?” I asked when the warmth of his mouth closed around the other nipple, and I could feel his lips forming into a small smile. He pulled away from my chest, holding the same smirk, and my mouth hung open, nearly desperate for more.

Miles traced his finger along my abdomen to the elastic band on my less-than-sexy cotton panties. A quiet whimper slipped from my lips when he hooked them and tugged, leaving me completely bare in front of him. Then he leaned down, hovering his face over mine while his finger traveled the inside of my thigh. “Because I’ve barely touched you, and you’re already panting.”

My cheeks got warmer, but I didn’t have time to feel the embarrassment before his slipped his finger between my lips and brushed it over my clit. "Oh!" I moaned instead. My muscles tensed when he started to make small circles.

“Relax. You’re in for a treat.” When he slid his finger inside me, I clenched around it. Then he curled it in a come-hither motion, and my back arched. I relaxed, feeling sensations I hadn’t felt in years traveling down my legs to my toes. “Just like that. Enjoy it.”

There is an older man that is going to change all of that for you very soon.My legs started to shake already. How was he doing that?

Miles settled between my legs, pulling his fingers from me and locking eyes with me before he stuck them in his mouth. He lifted his brows while he licked them clean. “Delicious,” he said, gripping my thighs. “I can’t wait to taste more.”

My eyes widened when he pushed my legs farther apart, planting them against the mattress and spreading me open. “Wait,” I said, trying to close them and failing when he held them apart. “I haven’t shaved. I didn’t exactly expect to hook up with the guy next door.”

“Shush,” he said, forcing my legs apart until I relaxed into the mattress. Miles leaned into me, inhaling deeply. “A little hair never stopped a real man. Let me take care of you.”

I whimpered.A real man.I dropped my head against the pillow, watching the devious smile growing on his lips before they pressed against my inner thigh. Miles left a trail of kisses along my skin, each one making my breaths come a little shorter. Then he drew his tongue along my slit, humming before he spread my lips apart with his thumbs. I couldn’t believe I was doing this.
