Jimmy’s round cheeks reddened. “I wanted to be discreet.”

“We got one?” Kady quoted the text.

“Hello. Ghostbusters? I take it you’re not a fan.”

“Maybe when I was a kid. One what?”

“I thought it was fairly obvious?”

“Jimmy, you’ve got five seconds before I turn around. I have to be at the bakery at four a.m.!”

“A tip. A really good one,” he said in a low tone, despite the room being nearly empty apart from the nightshift folks who were scattered around the room. No one was within ten feet of them.

“Okay, spill.”

“The call came in this afternoon. A guy wants to meet with you. Talk about blackmail.”

“Blackmail?” Kady quickly dragged her wheeled chair to Jimmy’s desk and took a seat. “Go on.”

“Someone is blackmailing Drew Callaghan’s campaign. Guy said he’d only talk to someone who’s discreet because things are still up in the air.”

“Up in the air?” Kady chewed on her lip for a second. “He’s close to the campaign.”

Jimmy nodded. “That’s what I thought.”

Kady pulled out her phone. “What time did you schedule the meeting?”

“Tomorrow morning. Can you get away from the bakery?”

“I think I can take a break for a half an hour or so. We usually have some downtime right before we open.”

“The guy sounded urgent. Like he was under a time crunch. He was even willing to meet tonight, but you were busy.”

Dinner with her sisters. Unavoidable. “No, that’s fine, Jimmy. Tomorrow morning will work.”

Jimmy showed teeth. “Not bad, huh?”

“You’ll be out of the intern pool in no time. This is a good tip, Jimmy, thanks.”

“Worth coming in at ten o’clock?”

Kady chuckled. “Definitely worth it. Have you eaten? I’ve got leftover stuffed shells in the car. You can have them if you want. There’s pie, too. Really good stuff.”

Jimmy put a hand to his flat stomach. His overall frame begged for some carbs and creatine. “Sure, that sounds amazing.”

“I’ll go get it. Where does the guy want to meet?”

Jimmy snatched the top Post-It note and handed it to Kady. “He gave me the address of a park.”

It was halfway between the bakery and Wes’s construction site. “Hmm, I could meet him before my shift. Yeah, this is good.”

Jimmy shut down his computer. “Am I forgiven?”

Kady ruffled his shaggy hair. “You did great, Jimmy. No apology necessary.”

“Kady!”

Kady and Jimmy turned to see Yates in his office doorway, his face flush with anger.
