“Then we wouldn’t be us,” she reminds me.
“I could last longer than that if I wasn’t being so forceful with you.”
Shaking her head, she laughs. “I get it, you’re a stud.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“What were you and Nick talking about during dinner tonight?” she asks, changing the topic.
I sigh. “Us. He was giving me shit about it and reminding me that there’s no easy way out of this.
“Are you looking for a way out of this?”
“No, that’s not what I meant. He just meant that this isn’t going to end well for anyone once people find out we’re sleeping together.” I pull her to me, and we sit on the edge of the bed. “I think he’s just trying to look out for us or prevent a big blow up from occurring.”
“His livelihood is tied to yours, so that makes sense,” she replies.
“He’s just trying to make sure that neither one of us ends up screwed in the end,” I say, shrugging. “It’s fine. I don’t want to talk about it tonight.”
“Okay, sorry I brought it up.” She bumps her shoulder with mine. “It just looked like the conversation was getting pretty serious over there. I thought maybe he was trying to talk you out of this.”
“Nah, he could never do that,” I tell her.
We’re both quiet for a bit, and I finally ask her, “Are you worried that I’ll end this with you? Whatever it is we’re doing.”
She looks over at me in the dimly lit hotel room, her eyes fiercely blue. “Kinda” is all she says.
“I’m not a smart man. You don’t have to worry about that.” I slowly lay her back, and for the first time, I actually make love to her.
I remove all her remaining clothes and take in the beautiful woman lying before me. Her toned legs, narrow waist, and abs that all of her hard work in soccer has brought her. She looks like an angel with the way her blonde hair is fanned out around her. I lean down and kiss her gently as I enter her. Our lovemaking is slow and feels like it might be leading to more, and I wonder whatshe thinks of it. But I don’t really have the courage to ask her once we’re lying there together.
Unfortunately, she can’t stay the night. She’s too worried that someone will notice she’s gone. After sneaking out of my room, she heads back to hers, and I’m left lying there alone in a room that still smells like sex and her.
Chapter Thirty-Two
~DANNY~
The Blaze has had two games this week. A home game against the North Carolina Courage which ended in a scoreless tie for both teams, followed by a game against the Orlando Pride, which Mac really wanted to win but didn’t. It was a 2-1 loss. She’s exhausted from all the practices and travel this week, but they’re playing another game on Sunday night at home.
That’s the one I’m going to be attending. But before that, I thought it might be fun to take her out. I send her a text and hope that she’s hungry.
Danny:Hey, pretty girl. Are you hungry?
I’m waiting in a dark corner of her building, hoping she replies yes. I want to take her on a date. I’m wearing a collared dress shirt and dark jeans.
Mac:I am. I’m hungry for you.
I smile at her flirtatious text, but I want more than that tonight.
Danny:Well, as much as I like that, how about you come and get some dinner with me? I know this great little seafood place by the water.
Mac:Ugh, I’m so tired. Do I have to dress like a person?
Danny:Just put on something and come on out. It’s not fancy. And you’ve gotta eat, right?
I hope she comes out and has dinner with me. We mentioned that last time we had a text exchange about getting dinner together. But I wasn’t sure if the plans were solidified. I was hoping they were, and if I showed up with the offer of a dinner, she’d just come out.
Danny:I’m out here at the corner of your lot. Come on out when you’re ready.
