“Again, none of your business.”
“You know what?I don’t even need to ask.The look on yourface is enough.”
“Don’t you have work to do?”I ask in annoyance.
“I guess.I was gonna check out that weird sound on mypatrol car.”
“Well, get to it then.”
He stands with a chuckle and gives me a full salute.“Yes, sir!”
As he walks out of my office, I lean back in my chair andthink about last night. It’s all I’ve been thinking about. No wonder I’ve beengrinning like an idiot all morning. She’s finally mine.I know it, and sheknows it.I saw it in her eyes.I wonder if she liked the flowers I sent herthis morning.I don’t really know what kind she likes, so I got her a mixedbouquet of red, white, and pink roses, tulips, orchids, and peonies.
“There you go again, back in dreamland.”
“What is it now, Charlie?”
The man is seriously getting on my nerves. Why won’t he stopinterrupting my thoughts?
“Well, I went to your truck to get the tool box and imaginemy surprise”—he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a flimsy black scrap ofcloth—“when I found this.”
Fuck!I bolt out of my chair and quickly snatch theunderwear from his fingers. He doubles over in laughter, and it brings Brick tomy door.Damn you, Charlie!
“Looks like things got a little rough there, boss.”
“What got rough?”Brick asks, his gaze shifting between Charlieand me.
I slap my palm to my forehead as Charlie turns to Brick.
“Boss man finally got some action.”
“No way!”Brick exclaims, smiling from ear to ear.“Nowonder he’s been so happy all morning.”
I could easily make them stop.Just another of my abilities—onelittle mental push and I can make them do whatever I want. However, I’ve neverhad to do it to either of them, and I’m not going to start.
“Look, this is not some woman I picked up somewhere. What wedo or don’t do is not up for discussion.Got it?”
Their smiles fade and they straighten their shoulders, thennod in understanding and walk out.I need to get some work done. The moment Iturn to my computer, my nose twitches; I can now smell her coming a mile away.I sit and watch the entrance to the station until she strolls in, removing hersunglasses.Every part of my body goes on high alert. She waves to everyone andwalks toward my office, a spring in her step. She’s wearing a white cottondress. There’s way too much skin visible for my comfort, but she looks amazing.I’m already rock-hard by the time she glides through the door and closes itbehind her.
“Good morning, Sheriff.”
I stand, but before I can go to her, she comes to me.Wrappingmy arms around her waist, I pull her against me.
“Good morning.”
“Ooh…” She giggles.“Happy to see me?”
I grab her hips and pull her closer, showing her just howhappy I am.She shivers and smiles up at me.
“Always.”
“Thank you for the flowers. They’re beautiful.”
“You’re welcome.”
She clasps her fingers at the back of my neck, and I lean infor a kiss.I take a deep breath, inhaling her scent.Today, she smells likecherry blossoms. She tastes like strawberries and bananas.I gather her closeand feel as she melts into the embrace. She lets out a soft whimper as I bitedown gently on her bottom lip.
“So sweet,” I mumble.
