“Indie,” he said, catching my attention again.

I paused to look back at him.

“I’m really happy for you.” He gave me a small smile. “I would offer to let him move in with us but he’d probably miss being close to his corpse friends.”

“You’re ridiculous.”

Hewasridiculous. But I loved him so.

In addition to the family business, Sammy had also left me a vacation home in the mountains. It was a cabin that he’d said some rich old fuck had lived in and when he’d died his wife had opted to sell it off for way below market value and Sammy jumped at the opportunity.

It was only a few hours or so outside of Fate Trace, but I felt super weird leaving Indie behind as I made my way there. I knew she would be fine. I only planned to be gone for a few days to check it out, fix it up, and get it ready for inhabitation. I had no idea what shape it was in, but I was about to find out.

We’d spent an amazing weekend together and were a few days into the following week when I had been shady with Indie when telling herwhyI was leaving. I wanted this trip to be a surprise. I hoped she wouldn’t be too suspicious of me and she’d quickly get over it once she found out what I had up my sleeve. I tried to think of the most ridiculous thing possible so that she’d laugh about it later. If she was turned off by me attending the Rochester Po/Am Horticultural Mushroom Seeding Convention, she hadn’t let it show. I was curious how long it would take her to realize that mushrooms don’t even have seeds.

I pulled up the long driveway through a massive gate. The place had a security system that rivaled Fort Knox and I was honestly pretty baffled that my uncle had just casually purchased something so high end for himself.

When he’d said a cabin, I expected something normal-sized, but this was nearly the size of a mansion.

I let myself in the front door and found that it didn’t look like it had sat empty for too long, and it wouldn’t take a ton of work to get it ready to bring Indie for a visit. Things needed dusted off and whatnot, and of course, I’d need to stock the kitchen and buy necessities. But other than that, it wasn’t bad.

I spent the first entire day cleaning and laundering all the bedding. The cabin had a weird vibe to it that I couldn’t put my finger on. It felt like something bad had happened here in the past and infected the atmosphere. I had always been sensitive to those kinds of things, and being there alone made my skin crawl. It was worse than any funeral home I’d ever spent time in. I hoped it was all in my head and it just felt like that because it was so large and empty, and that once I had Indie here with me, it wouldn’t feel that way anymore.

I texted her to check in throughout the day. If she suspected what I was doing, she hadn’t let on. So it was nice that once I’d showered and settled in for the night, I had high hopes she’d be up for a repeat of our in-office video call the week prior.

When she picked up the call, she was walking up the stairs to her apartment, just like I’d hoped she would be.

“How was your day?”

“It was okay. I missed you. Which is weird because we don’t work together. But just knowing you’re not close by is unsettling or something.”

“I feel the same.” I smiled at her. She was so beautiful. “I left you a present for while I’m gone.”

She was fumbling with her keys to unlock her front door. “You did? Where?”

I leaned against the headboard of the bed, crossing one foot over the other. “On your bed.”

She looked at me confusedly as she shoved the door open and stepped inside, locking it behind her. “How..” she trailed off. “Am I going to regret giving you Owen’s number?”

“To be determined but probably not for now,” I smirked.

She dropped her bag by the door and hung her keys up, then made her way to her room. The apartment was quiet and empty, Owen having gone out of town himself this afternoon. He would be gone for the next two weeks to visit family in another state.

She tossed the phone on the bed, giving me a view of the ceiling as she picked up the gift bag and opened what I’d left for her. I could hear the rustle of tissue paper as she pulled it from the bag, and her small gasp and giggle when she saw what was inside.

She picked the phone back up again and wiggled the vibrator in front of the screen, then dropped it on the bed and reached down to pick up the very lifelike silicone dildo I left for her. It was lifelike because it was a mold of my cock. I wondered if she’d notice. Probably not, but there was no way I was telling her I purchased a clone-a-willy fake dick-making kit just because I wanted her to always takemycock, even when I wasn’t there to give her the real thing. “And this is?”

“I think you know.” I gave her a heated look. “Can’t leave my girl high and dry just because I’m not around, now can I?”

I swiped out of the call and switched over to the app I’d installed on my phone to control the vibrator and pushed the button. I could hear it vibrate in her hand, and she let out a breathy laugh.

I flipped back over to get a look at her face. She was just as excited as I knew she would be.

“If you need to wind down from your day, feel free. I’ll be waiting once you’re finished.”

She took 45 minutes to settle for the night, and when her face returned to my screen, it was free of makeup, flushed from the shower and her hair hung wet around her face. I had a pang of regret for leaving her, but I knew the weekend I was planning for us would be worth it.
