“What?” I yell, jumping up. “You whore!” I shove past her, getting to Synn. “Let’s go, man. Leave the trash behind.”
I follow Destiny through the admin building, sticking to the shadows. I'm nowhere near as invisible as Ghost, but I know how to be unseen.
She makes a beeline to Augustine’s office, as I figured she would. She knocks once, then opens the door. I sneak closer, getting a look at the room inside as she pauses in the doorway to say something out of my range of hearing.
My jaw hits the floor when I see the sourpuss nurse who opened the doors to the hidden hospital inside the tunnel. What the actual fuck?
Destiny smiles at the nurse, who smiles back, then the door closes. I've got to be on the right track. I highly suspect the bitch knows exactly where Killer is. We're assuming she’s in the Morgue— but don’t know where it is. I'm going to talk to Synn about grabbing this bitch and torturing her for answers.
As I stomp back to the apartment, I decide to call my father via video call. I want to see his damn face when I ask him about the arranged marriage bullshit.
I get inside, heading to my room where I shut the door and pull out my phone. It rings a couple of times, then he picks up.
“Son, what can I do for you?”
“I found out that Synn is being forced to marry Destiny. Are you arranging something for me, too?”
He pauses, taking a breath. He looks me in the eye. “No, Son. Why would I? You need an appropriate wife, but finding a proper candidate who can handle your lack of empathy will be tricky.”
“Alright then. Let me be clear—I will not be forced to marry anyone. Understand?”
His eyes burn with simmering anger, and he clenches his jaw, looking away briefly. Then he changes the subject. “How are you boys coming along with cleansing yourselves of your darkness?”
“Working on it. It would be nice to know where she was taken. You know, for closure.”
Fuck. I didn’t mean to blurt that out. I inwardly wince, and he sees it.
“Son, is that emotion on your face? When did you start feeling?”
The look on his face is one with glee. Fucking fuck!
“What are you talking about? You know I don’t feel.”
“Whatever you say. But I know what I see, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.” He makes a show of checking his Rolex. “I have a meeting. We will talk later, Son.”
Before I can respond, he disconnects. Without answering the damn question. Now that he knows I feel, he will no doubt use it against me.
Dammit!
Synn
My fists are clenched as I try to beat back the fury roaring through my veins. I’m stuck between Des’s announcement and finding Pazessca.
I can’t do anything about finding my girl—yet. But that cunt Destiny? I whip out my phone, poised to speed dial my father’s number. Before I can, Frost comes slamming out of his room.
I can see the emotion playing out on his features, which is still weird as fuck. “What’s going on?”
He grinds his teeth, sawing back and forth. “I followed Destiny. She went to Augustine’s office; unsurprising. but, whenhe opened the door, I saw that bitch nurse standing there, smiling.”
“What?” I bellow. “She knows something? I'll beat it out of her!”
“I had that thought too. Then, I made a really stupid decision to video call my father.”
The world tilts on its axis. Frost doesn’t do stupid—ever. “So what happened?”
“He lied to my face when I asked him about arranging a marriage for me, too. Something’s up. I asked him about Killer’s location... that was the stupidest part. I said it was to give us closure, but he saw right through it. He even called out my newfound emotion.”
I gape, unable to answer. I snap my jaw shut, taking a breath before speaking. “They know she matters now. How could you make such a fuck-up, man? You, out of any of us... you are the voice of reason!”
