“If he wasn’t dead, I would gladly—” My eyes widen as I realize what I almost said. “Destroy him for you.”
“You’re more bloodthirsty than I expected.” Annex chuckles. “I like it.”
The sadness in his aura turns to humor, and his energy seems lighthearted again. I don’t let myself wonder too much about why I disliked seeing him so upset. Possibly it’s because he’s the closest thing I have to a friend in town outside of Greer and Lisette. One of those is my boss, so I doubt she really counts as a friend.
I settle back against the couch cushion. It’s on the tip of my tongue to ask him why he’s massaging my feet, but I’m afraid if I bring it up, he might stop.
Incubi are sexual creatures.
Maybe that spills over into being touchy-feely?
That must be it.
Either way.
I’m desperate for companionship, and being touched feels nice. I’m definitely not going to ask him to stop.
Chapter Seven
Annex
Knowing there’s more to Hazel than meets the eye makes me feel slightly underhanded as I spend the next week doing my best to befriend the quirky woman. I believe I’m beginning to win her over, but the process has been exceptionally slow going. That’s one benefit of immortality, I suppose.
It’s hard to see her mope around the house. At least I get to socialize at work, even if it comes with an excessive amount of people trying to fuck me.
Or asking me to fuck them.
Sneaking away to watch trashy reality television with Hazel has become one of my favorite parts of the day, but tonight I have something different in mind.
I appear behind her on the sofa with the black box in hand.
Her head tilts, and she smiles when she spots me. “One of these days, they’re going to catch onto your little scheme and fire you.”
“Perhaps.” I chuckle, booping her nose. “Tonight is technically my night off. I intend to go in just for a bit to get the party started.” And not just out of the goodness of my heart.
I’m starving.
It’s been weeks since I came to town, and I haven’t had a real meal since meeting Hazel. I’ve had to survive off the scraps of lust that I pick up from the crowd at Rut.
I’m immortal, meaning starving won’t kill me, but it has begun to grate on my nerves. Unfortunately for my stomach, there’s only one meal that appeals, and that’s sweet Hazel.
Stepping around to the side of the couch, I let my wings stretch wide as I squat and drop the wrapped gift on Hazel’s lap.
“What’s this?”
I’m fucked up because I’m addicted to the way her big blue eyes widen.
“A surprise just for you. I’ve decided I can’t stand to see you spend even one more night moping around the house.” I flutter my lashes. “Come out with me tonight, baby doll? It’ll be fun, I promise. I won’t leave your side.”
Hazel’s head tilts. “Are you sure you want to be seen in public with me? It might be the kiss of death for your social life.”
Ahh, I remember asking her if she was embarrassed to be seen in public with me the day I popped into Spellbound to let her know we were going to be housemates.
I chuckle, shaking my head. “I’ll take my chances. Now, open it. I need to see if you fancy what I spent hours searching for.”
I only just realized she’s going to need heels to match that sexy little dress.
She pulls the ribbon and shakes the top off the box before unfolding the silver wrapping paper.
