“I commanded anyone that was using their power to demand things from weaker wolves to never command again.” I cut my eyes away from his face. I knew this would not sit well with him.

“Amy!”

“I know, I know. It’s against the law, but there is something going on with them. One girl was going to say something, but then one of the others commanded her to shut up. So I made sure she couldn’t command anyone else.”

“But you can’t fight against wrongdoing by following suit.”

“Commanding someone of lower rank is frowned upon when it is not in the pack’s interest. Only wolves of rank may make a command of a wolf under them. Commanding a wolf of rank to no longer use their command is prohibited.” I listed off the rules in the laws from the council. “No, where does it state that I cannot remove the ability to use their command of an unranked wolf? I made sure I was still within the law.” I tossed my hair.

“You are splitting hairs, Amy.”

“I know, but it was for the interest of the pack. These wolves were actively breaking the law, for I don’t know how long here under your nose, torturing weaker wolves into what equates to slavery.”

“Hey now. That is a little dramatic.” My dad ran his fingers through his hair, but I just raised my eyebrow.

“They were demanding weaker wolves to do their chores, give them their food, their clothing, some even demanded their money. If they resisted, they were tortured with their aura and physically assaulted until they complied.” My dad remained silent, but I continued. “They targeted certain girls daily. Forced some to skip meals, to cut their hair, to wear ridiculous or skimpy clothing. One of the girls told me they even tried to make her reject her mate…”

“What?” I just nodded. “Why wasn’t this brought to my attention?”

“Aurora has everyone under some kind of spell. Anytime someone tried to talk to anyone other than the Beta and Gamma females, they were dismissed.” I sat back and watched my dad’s mind drift off. I got up and slapped him across the face.

“What was that for?” He rubbed his cheek and I dropped back down to my chair.

“Any time I say that name, your eyes grow glossy like you are drunk. Drunk off her.” I finished my plate of food as he considered what I was saying and Manda brought in my desert. Crème brûlée, my favourite. “It worries me the effect she has on all the men, and who might just fall under her spell permanently.”

“I know who my mate is, Amy.”

“I know you do, but when she is around you and I am not, who’s to say what happens?” I cracked into my dessert. “She has some sway over you, dad.”

“Okay.” My father wiped his face again. “So you are saying stay away from…”

“The she-wolf we shall not name.” I laughed at my wizard reference, but my dad just shook his head.

“You still watch human movies?”

“Of course. Not like there are a lot of werewolf movies out there.” I rolled my eyes. “Anyway, nice side step. If you want to avoid talking about your reaction to who shall not be named, then how about we talk about how we can break it?”

“I don’t know, to be honest. But your grandmother left behind her journals, you can go through them.”

“You haven’t read them?”

He shook his head. “She said they weren’t for me to read. I was to give them to my daughter.”

“She knew me?”

“Goddess no, she was gone long before you, but she had the ability to see things that had not come to pass yet.”

“She could see the future?” My mouth dropped open.

His laughter caught me off guard. “Amy, you have lived another life, and this surprises you?”

I guess he was right. Once you lived one life, and were reborn, seeing the future isn’t a stretch. “I’m going to be honest, dad. All of this surprises me.”

“Me too. But I promise it gets easier. Go to bed. We have an early day.” I nodded, kissed his cheek, and left.
