“We have a lot to celebrate,” I tell her.
She frowns her confusion. “You only found out about the warehouse on your way back to your place and you didn’t know about Hillary, yet you brought this bottle of champagne with you from New York. What am I missing?”
“A crazy thought took root in my head when I landed in New York, and I haven’t been able to shake it off.”
She shoots me a suspicious side gaze. “I’m afraid to ask.”
It was only a fleeting thought when I left LA. Five hours and twenty-three minutes of flight later, and I couldn’t shake it off, no matter how much I told myself I was nuts.
“Why is that?” I chuckle.
“Because every time you open your mouth, you rock my world.”
“Oh, yeah?”
“You know you do.”
“Come here,” I reach out for her, lift her and drop her on my lap so she’s straddling my thighs.
I bring my hands to her face, resting my palms on her cheeks, forcing her attention on me.God, those hazel green eyes.“You’re so fucking beautiful, Jules... and you’re mine.”
Her eyes are enormous.
“What aren’t you telling me, Levi?” she pleads.
“Relax, sweetness,” I tell her.
Untrusting eyes stare back at me.
“It’s nothing bad,” I assure her.
“Okay,” she says with a slow nod. “Why do you look all serious all of a sudden?” her fingers trace a line along my stubbled jaw.
“Move in with me.” The words come flying out of my mouth. I was planning on delivering my message with more finesse, but my impatience won over.
Jules’s hand tenses on my skin and her jaw drops.
Myriad emotions flash back at me.
“Wh—what?” she mumbles.
“I said, move in with me.”
She swallows a breath. “We’ve only been dating for three weeks!” she argues.
Frankly, I didn’t want to admit to myself how strong Jules’s power was over me. I couldn’t bring it into words, but with each passing hour in New York, it became blatantly clear words weren’t nearly as important as action.
My fingers walk along her arm. “The deeper I get in with you, the harder it is to get out.” She blinks. “But here’s the thing...” I allow for a pregnant pause. “I’m not itching to get out. I want more, Jules.”
I thought her eyes were enormous before, but now I know there’s a whole other level to her stupor.
She’s staring at me wordlessly.
“Talk to me,” I coax.
Her eyes close, not giving me a response.
Shit.
