“The tapes?” His eyebrows raise an inch in confusion. If I wasn’t in damage control mode, I’d get a kick out of how heavy his eyelids are. He looks like he’s fighting to keep them open, which couldn’t be more different from the bug-eyed look I’m giving him right now.

I push off him and crawl back to the passenger seat in record time. Once there, I pull up the straps on my dress and place them back on my shoulders, then run my hands down the bottom to smooth out any wrinkles. When I pull down the shade and flip open the mirror, Fortune meets my eye.

“Lea, what’s going on?” He sits up in the seat like normal, except now there’s a deep crease between his eyebrows that wasn’t there earlier.

“There are security cameras. We’ve got to erase any footage of us being here.”

“My windows are tinted,” is his reply. Like that’s going to hide the fact that we were in here screwing each other’s brains out for god knows how long.

I wipe off the crusty mascara that’s fallen under my eyes and straighten out my stray hairs. All the while running through the night again, making sure there aren’t any other loose ends that need to be tied up.

The facility has night time security, but they only come back to the players’ lot once around midnight since it’s hidden from the main entrance and requires key access for entry. This is also the only part of the facility that staff can access after-hours and requires multiple key swipes to get through the doors.

Unless you are an expert level hacker, there’s no chance of you getting in. It’d be much easier to distract the security guards or wait for their shift change to stage a sneak in.

Fuck.

I glance over at the clock with a groan.

If it’s midnight now, that means the security guards are going to be rolling up any minute now.

“You also got out of the car and moved into the back seat, and neither of us has left the car yet. If anyone pulled the tapes… you do the math.”

Fortune mutters an elongated, “Fuck,” under his breath, followed by the rustle of him putting on his jeans. I look back at him, shirtless and satiated and hot as ever. If I wasn’t worried about the guards seeing us, I’d probably petition for another round.

“We’re going to go in and erase the tapes, but we have to be quick because security is coming to this side of the parking lot any minute.”

Fortune tilts his head and looks past me. His lips clamp together as he points out the windshield. “You mean those guys right there?”

You’ve got to be kidding me.

“Alright.” I resist the urge to lick my lips as I appreciate the last few looks at Fortune’s abs before he pulls his shirt over his head and down his torso. “You’re going to have to climb over the seat. If they see you getting out of the back, it’ll be easy to put two and two together.”

“Why don’t we stay here until they leave?”

“Because it’ll look even more suspicious if they catch us.”

“Lea, I’m six-foot-four. I’m not gonna be able to fit over the console to get into the driver's seat…”

I give him a harsh stare, equivalent to the kind a parent gives a kid when they say something stupid at the worst possible time. A ragged breath expels from his lungs and he gives me a clipped nod to tell me I’m right.

“Exactly what I thought.”

Pushing open the door, I grab my phone before hopping out and lift my arms for a big stretch the second I’m free. Fortune has one of the biggest SUVs on the market, but working with a cramped space and a man who’s half a foot taller than me wasn’t easy. I’m almost certain my neck is going to have a permanent crick in it after tonight.

Grunts sound from the inside of the car, and a smile creeps over my lips when Fortune slips and accidentally lets out a honk that blows our cover. When he emerges from the driver’s side door, he shoots me an annoyed expression that makes me laugh.

The two of us walk side by side toward the staff entrance, neither of us saying a word. It’s almost like we’re playing a game of hide and seek, and all there’s left to do is wait until we’re found. It’s no surprise when two male security guards, both of which look soft around the waist, emerge from the front.

“Act casual,” I say out of the corner of my mouth, while a warm smile spreads over my face as I wave to our security team.

“Not sure how you expect me to do that when what we just did was anything but casual.”

Any other time, I would work that sentence over in my brain a hundred times to decipher the hidden meaning. Right now, I’ve got a mission to accomplish, so his playful banter is taking the back burner for the time being. That’s a task for tomorrow’s Lea, the version who is freshly showered and sufficiently caffeinated.

“Hey, y’all. Nice night, isn’t it?” I say to the two men as we approach the door.

“Weather’s pretty nice for this time of year, that’s for sure.”
