“Can you keep a secret?” Blossom asks me.

“Seriously? Did you really just ask me that? As one of your best friends and your Luna?”

“I’m sorry. It’s just very personal.” Blossom looks at me with the biggest eyes I’ve ever seen.

“She has the hots for Chief Glen, and no matter what we do, we can’t make him see her!” Flick throws out, not without a little exasperation, I might add.

“I have dreams of him taking me to the orchard and, and, well, taking me!” Blossom holds her hand to her mouth as if she has just defiled the Goddess Selene personally.

“Is that all? Is that the big secret? I think the only one who doesn’t know your secret is Chief Glen himself. Everyone knows that one of you had the hots for him, we just couldn’t work out which of you it was.”

“WHAT?” Flick looks horrified. “It’s all her. She’s the one, not me. I’d like Flint to take me to the orchard!” I, like Blossom, stare wide-eyed at Flick. I don’t think she was supposed to reveal that tidbit and as yet, hasn’t realized.

“Flint? Councilman Flint? No wonder the menu is so damn good when he visits. You sly old coot, you. We had no idea.” Blossom laughs at the shock on Flick’s face.

“Well, Blossom, yours is an easy fix. I can just tell Alpha Lyle to make an Alpha order to Chief Glen to take you to the orchard and ravish you until you say stop. You, Flick, present a slightly more vexing problem. I know Flint likes you and adores your cooking. Maybe we could starve him for a couple of days, spirit you into his room, lay you naked on his bed and cover you in your own lasagna. That would work!” They both look at me as though I’m serious, and I can actually see them weighing up my suggestions. What…the…

“No! I’m kidding.” They both look a little crestfallen at my words.

“Some best friend and Luna you are!” Flick states.

“Yeah. That was cruel. I thought you had something there. You’d have to make sure that Flick’s lasagna had cooled though. Can you imagine him getting the hot cheese stuck to histhingy? It’s bad enough when you get it on your finger never mind somewhere like that!” Blossom looks at Flick, and we all burst into peals of laughter.

I can see I’m going to enjoy being Luna to this pack of lunatics!

Chapter 26

LYLE

Watching the warrior training this morning, I’m intrigued when I see Chief Glen training a group of warriors, and Sloane off to one side training one-on-one with Jade. I know that since Lavender found her mate and Jade returned to the pack, she has been noticeably quieter and off the radar, so to speak. Her warrior status was removed during those turbulent times with Lavender, and she hasn’t made any great effort to get it back. That surprised me because she was a fearsome warrior in the arena.

Watching her now, it seems she has regained the desire to be a warrior because she is certainly giving it her all out there. Sloane isn’t holding back one bit, and some of the blows that land on Jade have got to hurt. Oh, and they have no protective training gear on, either. Interesting.

Glancing at the trees as I sense movement, I see Blossom and Flick ogling Chief Glen again. I meant to have that talk with those two, so today is as good a day as any. Walking back to the packhouse, I wonder if I should drop this in Fenya’s lap? She is their Luna now, after all.

Don’t be such a coward. You would have had it to do if she had rejected you,Hunter comments from out of nowhere.

‘Thank you for that subtle reminder. You can be so helpful at times such as this. You wolves are a bit more direct when it comes to the opposite sex.’

Hunter chortles. Not at all. We just know how to enjoy each other without all the emotional rubbish that you humans have to complicate matters with.

‘You’d prefer a human-free world, no doubt.’

Goddess forbid! You humans provide far too much entertainment to be without you. You’re a constant source of mirth and merriment.

‘I’m so glad we’re useful for something,’ I retort.

Reaching my office, I mind link for Blossom and Flick to join me. I’m just thinking it won’t take them long to get here, when there’s a knock on the door. Calling “Enter,” Flint walks in.

“Morning Lyle. How’s things?”

“I recognize that tone. You’re bored and want me to join you so you can get into some mischief.” I grin at the look on Flint’s face.

“I know I shouldn’t be bored, what with Arric and everything, but I am, you’re right. So, what can you suggest I stick my nose into?” Wriggling his nose doesn’t have the effect it was supposed to as I just frown at him.

“I have Blossom and Flick coming over any moment. They are constantly spying on and ogling Chief Glen. I suspect one of them has taken a liking to him, and they don’t know how to approach him. I’m going to get to the bottom of it this morning.”

“I should leave you to it then, eh?” Flint looks like he’d rather listen to the fun than be anywhere else right now, so I give him an option.
