Grr, damn him!“You know what word comes to mind when I look at you?Crymaxer.”
She was trying to hit a nerve but he surprised her by bursting out laughing, a deep rumble from his chest that made her feel all tingly.
“If that’s what you think sweetheart, then fine. But if you fancy putting in the time to find out then I’m definitely open to that.” His voice dropped low, pitched for her ears alone. The heat in his eyes inviting, the dark depths stroking over her, taking her all in, memorizing her. She fought a shiver at his blatantly sexual perusal.
What the hell, is he flirting with me?She loved to flirt as much as the next woman, but she couldn’t with him. This was one battle with him she would always back down from because he made herfeel. And she didn’t like it.
She spun away and grabbed three bottles of beer which is what she figured he actually wanted. She took the tops off and when she turned back a petite brunette was leaning all over him, fluttering her lashes so aggressively Taylor was sure she felt a gust of wind.
Beau was staring down at her, returning her flirtatious smiles. A lance of hurt spread through Taylor when she realized Beau had only flirted with her to get under her skin and win yet another round of verbal sparring. She ignored him other than to slam the beer bottles down on the bar top, suds flying everywhere. She turned to the next man waiting, pasting a big ol’ smile on her face and got right back to flirting.
Except none of the men were giving her anything. At this rate she would never be able to persuade them into a fake dating situation. When it was clear she wasn’t going to have any luck, she turned her attention to her favorite hobby: Beau sabotage.
Each time he went to the bathroom, or to the bar, or just turned his back she made a beeline for the woman he was talking to.Consider it revenge for being a flirty douchebag.
“I’m sure it still works after his accident, but if not then thank God for vibrators, right?”
“Fingers crossed all his crabs are gone!”
“He and his mom are like, super close. He called out her name one time when we had sex.”
“He has some weird fetishes; did you know he can only get a boner if you bark like a dog?”
She actually saw the last woman bark at him. His face was priceless, and Taylor couldn’t contain her laughter. Unfortunately, her glee drew his attention. His dark eyes swiveled to her and narrowed dangerously. He downed his drink, slamming the bottle on the table before stalking over to her.
Shit.
She tried to escape but he moved quicker than she anticipated, his hand curling around her upper arm.
“Not so fast.”
“Get off me!” she snapped.
“Not a chance,” he growled, but loosened his grip.
“You don’t scare me, I eat guys like you for breakfast!”
“Really? Lunch and dinner too? Could you be any cornier?”
He started pulling her away from their friends and she struggled against his hold.
“Come on, we’re going for a little chat,” he said and dragged her over to her office door. She called out to Christy and Justine but they just turned away.Traitors.She spluttered the whole way until he shoved her inside and shut the door, blocking out all the background noise of the bar.
“Congratulations Taylor, I didn’t realize you were running for cock-blocker of the year,” he said, letting her go. She huffed and smoothed her hands over her outfit.
“I don’t think I did a very good job, you’ve successfully eye-fucked every woman in here tonight.”
“Nearly every woman.” He smirked at her and she bared her teeth in return. “Is that the come-hither smile that’s sent every man running for the hills tonight?”
“Fuck you!”
“No thanks, sweetheart.”
She had only a moment to be shocked at the sting of rejection she felt at his words before he started again.
“Why do you keep interfering?” he asked, stroking his hand over his jaw. The rasp of his stubble against his palm was so loud in her silent office it had her mouth running dry. She bolted for the door, needing to be away from him before she did something stupid.
“Oh no you don’t, Princess, you don’t get to walk away right now.”
