“Then why isn’t he here with you?” he grumbled, annoyed she was marking her skin over that asshole.
“Because it’syouI want with me.”Then why aren’t you getting my initials tattooed on you!he wanted to scream, but then she offered him that soft smile and all his anger disappeared.
He was pulled out of his memory as he neared the group and the conversation filtered through.
“-can’t prove it’s him,” Blake was saying.
Beau slapped Dean on the back in greeting.
“Hey man,” Dean nodded at him and they bumped fists.
“But it is him, I just know it!” Taylor cried, huffing loudly as frustration poured off her in waves.
“I know Tay, Iknow. But without proof my hands are tied,” Blake said, shaking his head.
“What’s going on?” Beau asked. Taylor’s eyes flicked to him, then away again, her lips pursing. As usual he permitted himself a quick glance and then looked away before he lost himself in her.
“Fucking Dale again,” Dean hissed, and Beau’s blood ran cold. He didn’t know what had happened between Taylor and Dale and for obvious reasons, he didn’t want to think about it. He didn’t like the guy, but didn’t like him even more when he had come to the bar months ago and harassed Taylor, making Beau’s legendary hold on his temper snap and he escorted Dale from the bar. He would love to get his hands on Dale again…
Beau pulled himself out of his uncharacteristically homicidal thoughts. “What’s he done now?” He directed the question to Taylor, not expecting her to answer but she surprised him.
“He messed around with my clothes at the laundromat and slipped a note under my door,” she replied.
“Last night?” Beau asked, trying to keep a leash on his temper as it was fraying at the seams.
“Yep. You didn’t happen to see anything did you?” she asked, her stunning emerald eyes brightening with a hope he hated to dash.
“No sorry, after I got back from the diner I went straight to my cabin and stayed there all night.”
“Alone?” The word whipped from her as though she had no control over it.
He narrowed his eyes at her, her brow furrowing under his scrutiny, and she nibbled her lower lip. He forced himself to look away. Why is she always so interested in my love life?
“How is that your business?”
Tension thrummed between them.
“If there’s potentially another witness we can ask, then hell yeah it’s my business.” A smug look crossed her face, she knew she had him there.Dammit.
“I was alone,” he gritted through clenched teeth and his gaze flicked to her long enough to see triumph shine in those dazzling eyes, setting them aflame. The triumph was short-lived though as he watched her realization that it meant there was no witness to what happened. He could hardly bear to see her disappointment.
“I’ll swing by again and see him, Taylor. But in the eyes of the law, until we have a witness or evidence, I can’t do jack shit. You know I would otherwise, I’m sorry,” Blake said.
“I know, B, I understand,” Taylor replied.
“I just don’t get it, why is he so obsessed with you?” Dean burst out, struggling to keep his temper under wraps as well.
“Because she’s a really amazing person, that’s why! Who wouldn’t be obsessed with her?” Justine cried defensively.
“It’s okay sweetie, you don’t need to defend me, it wasn’t an insult,” Taylor said gently, patting Justine’s hand and Dean snickered.
“I’m sorry, it’s the hormones,” Justine said tearfully. Beau smirked as Blake sighed before pulling his wife-to-be into a hug, catching Beau’s eyes and shaking his head before smiling.
“He just wants me back and won’t get the hint that I’m not interested,” Taylor shrugged.
“What if we can prove you’re not interested?” Dean asked softly.
“What do you mean?” Beau replied.
