“One of the guys heard you scream. I… uh… Okay, then.” His face bright red with embarrassment, he backed out, closing the door.
Behind her, Morgan rocked with silent laughter.
“It’s not funny!”
“Yes, it is.”
“It’s not! Poor Duke.” She grabbed a robe she kept behind the door for clients and ran after her friend. “Duke, wait!”
“Sorry to barge in on ya,” Duke said without turning back. “Was worried about you.”
“I know, and I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“Didn’t know what to think when the guys heard screaming.”
His building and hers shared a common wall, which she’d forgotten while she’d screamed her head off.
“Thank you for checking on me.”
“No problem. You’ll understand if I can never make eye contact again with either of you.”
Smiling, Sierra took his arm and made him turn around. “There,” she said when he looked at her. “Was that so hard?”
“It was very, very hard.”
She laughed. “I guess now we’re even. We’ve both barged in on each other at inopportune times.”
Morgan strolled out of the room, wearing only jeans that were unbuttoned. “Is he still speaking to us?”
“Barely.”
“Thank you for checking on Sierra when you thought something was wrong,” Morgan said as he put his arm around her. “That makes you a very good friend to both of us.”
Duke was so cute when he blushed and totally ruined his bad-boy vibe. “Sounds like things are going well between you two. Glad to never hear it again.”
With that, Duke departed, and Sierra buried her face in Morgan’s chest. “Mortifying.”
“He’s going to tell his guys he saved you from a thorough fucking.”
Sierra shrieked. “Stop! He’d better not tell them that.”
“You know he’s gonna.”
Moaning, she said, “I’ll never be able to go over there for free candy again.”
He hugged her. “Aw, poor baby. I’ll get you all the candy you can eat.”
Sierra started to laugh and couldn’t stop. She laughed so hard, she would’ve peed her pants had she been wearing them.
“I’m never going to hear the end of this,” she said when she finally caught her breath.
“Neither of us will, so what do you say we go finish what we started, minus the screaming this time?”
“I think we’ve had enough for now, don’t you?”
He surprised her when he lifted her off her feet to carry her back to the room. “I have a feeling I’m never going to get enough of you.”
