“At least try to explain to me what the hell are you getting at?” I ask, irritated. “You think I-”
“I don’t trust you.”
My stomach twists. “Do you really think I would betray our own?” Is that what he’s getting at? “Why would you even think that I’m a traitor?”
“No one would believe me anyway, even if I did think that, right? But until I have solid proof, I’m not trusting shit fromyou.”
My hands curl into fists, his words stinging. “I would never betray my own blood; I would die first. And for each and every one of you,” I say, my voice rough.
He now turns back, wiping the sweat from his forehead once again, his hair sticking to his face. He looks me square in the eye. “Would you?”
“Yeah,” I answer, not missing a beat, my eyes blazing with defiance.
The silence stretches like a sharp blade between us before he nods. “And if your blood betrays you, what would you do?” he asks, stepping closer. My stomach twists, and I swallow hard. He scoffs at my hesitation. “Yeah, either way, you’re a fucking loser. I’ll be watching you, Saint Jayce. Don’t forget it.”
And then he turns and walks off, leaving me standing there feeling fucking confused as the rain begins pouring down…
Seeking Help
Jayce
“You know those dreams you were having… any idea who the cloaked man is?” I ask Sienna casually as she leads me outside.
She stills, only for a second, but it’s enough. I feel the shift in her. Her heartbeat is spiking.
“He isn’t relevant,” she says after a pause, her tone carefully neutral.
I watch her closely, my stomach twisting. Is that the truth or a lie? I can’t sense anything. Simply nothing.
“Come on, I’ve got something to show you, and we don’t have long before our next class,” she says lightly.
She pulls a silk sash from her pocket and gives me a small smile, gesturing for me to turn around.
“What’s this for?” I ask as she blindfolds me, her fingers brushing down my neck.
“Not what I want it to be for,” she whispers as her hand finds mine, fingers lacing through with a warm, familiar grip, and she starts walking.
I smirk. “Well, it can be used more than once, don’t you think?”
“True, but this is exciting, too!” She laughs, and I can hear the excitement bubbling beneath her words.
I wonder how I couldn’t sense if she was lying or telling the truth, but I’m just glad she sounds like herself today. The grass crunches underfoot, crisp with frozen ice. I caress her fingers with my thumb as we walk in silence.
It’s been a day since that odd conversation with Ares, and I haven’t been able to make heads or tails of it. I have no fucking clue as to what he was going on about.
“Ok, we’re here,” she says. I feel her chest pressing against mine as she reaches up, her fingers brushing my hair as she makes to remove the blindfold. I catch her wrists, stopping her, her scent tickling my nose, and I lean down, my nose nudging hers as I find her, and she tilts her head, pressing her lips against mine. I kiss her – slow and sensual, relishing this moment, the way she tastes, the way she feels…
She whimpers softly against me, and I release one of her wrists, wrapping my arm around her waist as I press her closer against me.
“Jayce…” she moans, her hand slipping down my waist. We kiss until she’s breathless, her arousal scenting the air, and I could continue, but I can’t guarantee my self-control.
I break away before I pull on the end of the blindfold and look down at her.
“Hey, beautiful,” I whisper, taking hold of her chin. I kiss her lightly again, and she smiles up at me.
“You know, I could devour you…” Sienna whispers seductively. “And… I want to taste you.”
I cock a brow, not expecting her to say that, but I know exactly what she means. I glance around, and although we aren’t in the open, we aren’t entirely alone either.
