Just add this to the long list of why Jayden is the best boyfriend, ever.
“Possibly.” He tells Mojo to give me the bag.
The big goofy dog eyes his tall, handsome owner, and with his tail wagging, presents the bag to me.
Practically drooling, I remove the bag from his mouth. Fortunately, it’s free of dog drool. “So what did Jayden get me?” I ask Mojo. “Blueberry or cherry cheesecake muffin?”
Both would be excellent choices.
I open the bag, but instead of a muffin, a small white cardboard box—the kind you put desserts in—is inside.
My smart and sexy and witty boyfriend has brought me something even yummier for breakfast than the typical standard delights.
“What’s the special occasion?” I ask, lifting the box out of the bag.
“You’ll see.”
Without being told, Mojo sits and watches me expectantly, as if waiting for me to share my treat with him.
I open the box and peer inside.
Then gasp.
It’s not the slice of my favorite chocolate cake that causes the reaction.
All right, that might have something to do with it…because it is chocolate cake after all.
Jayden’s grandmother’s vintage engagement ring—the one I wore on the mission—is sitting on the icing. The large teardrop diamond and the tiny embedded diamonds glitter happily at me.
Jayden gets down on one knee, and my darn eyesight becomes blurry.
“Isabelle, you’re my best friend and my partner in crime at work, but I’m—”
Mojo—no longer sitting—licks Jayden’s face.
Jayden turns to his goofball of a dog. “Do you mind? We’re having a moment here?”
I giggle and attempt to blink away the tears while Jayden’s distracted.
Mojo whimpers what I’m guessing is an apology and goes back to sitting.
“That’s better.” Jayden turns to me. “I’m hoping you’ll also be my partner in life. Isabelle, will you be my wife?” His hopeful expression is almost my undoing. There’s no way I could ever say no to that.
And why would I?
Jayden is everything I could possibly want. Heismy everything.
Besides, the guy proposed to me with my favorite chocolate cake. This moment couldn’t be more perfect.
“I would love to be your wife. More than you can possibly imagine.”
Jayden removes the ring from the icing, wipes it with a cloth napkin from the tray, and holds it out to me. I present him my hand, and he slides the ring onto my finger.
It was breathtaking the first time I put it on as part of our cover. But now that I know Jayden loves me—and what the ring symbolizes—my prior feelings toward it pale in comparison to this moment.
It’s the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen.
Jayden pushes himself to his feet and joins me on the bed. He tenderly kisses me and brushes my hair from my face. “Christ, I love you.”
