“I’ll do anything for you.”
Two Weeks Later…
“What do you think about these, baby?” Lyra turned around in the stiletto heels and asked.
I’d lost count of how many times she asked, but I knew it had to have been somewhere between twelve and fifteen pairs. Hell, I didn’t know the store had that many shoes to begin with.
Since I gave my brother and partner more responsibility with the company, I had way more time on my hands, and so far, so good. Junior and I spent extra time together. I loved it. I felt more at ease than I had felt in a long time. Whenever Lyra was back from a work flight, I was right there to pick her up, take her home, and make love to her for as long as she desired.
“They’re sexy as hell, beautiful. Get them.” I winked.
She beamed and quickly took the Guiseppe Zanotti heels off.
“I’ll take these as well.” She handed them to the store associate. She sat down beside me and rested her head on my shoulder briefly.
“Thank you for everything. I appreciate you so much.”
“No need to thank me. This is your life now, and I want you to get used to it. I don’t know how many ‘yes’ days it’ll take for you to become comfortable being loved and cherished in all ways just because you simply exist, but however many it takes, we’ll have them.”
“How do you always leave me speechless somehow?”
“The same way you do me. Don’t act like you ain’t been working me over since we met.”
“It’s just the Sagittarius in me. I can’t help it.” She shrugged with her eyebrow raised.
Her phone vibrated, and she unlocked it to see the text. I headed up to the counter, leaving her to check her phone and get her shoes back on before we left. By the time I’d finished paying for everything, Lyra was behind me with her hands wrapped around my waist.
“Guess what?” She bubbled with excitement, then stepped from behind me.
“What?” I couldn’t help but laugh, because she acted like a kid in a candy store while we shopped.
“My manager texted me with a heads up that I only have to fly once a week starting next month. She wants me to shadow her in the city for the next few months so I can learn the administrative side of things. I’m so happy, Dre.”
I kissed her lips before she could get another word out. “Breathe, beautiful. You know it’s up, right? Everything is coming together the way it should.”
She planted her lips on mine, and we kissed for I didn’t know how long at the counter, and neither one of us gave a damn.
One Year Later…
“Can you help me with this? I can’t reach that high to the cabinet door.”
I was exhausted from trying to unpack the two boxes in front of me. Dre came up to me and damn near snatched the glassware out of my hands.
“You are so hardheaded, you know that?” He kissed my forehead.
“Stop trying to lift shit, baby, especially over your head. The doctor told us twice before that the later you are in the pregnancy, the less stress your body needs. The people I hired to unpack are coming tomorrow morning and throughout the restof the week. Plus, I’ll be unpacking things, too. All I need for you to do is rest and finish baking our little sweet lady in there.”
“But you know it’s hard for me to sit down somewhere,” I whined.
He put the glasses down, knelt, and kissed my exposed seven-month baby bump. I couldn’t believe life. Love stepped in and took hold of me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Dre was the epitome of “my man, my man, my man.”
He made the ultimate sacrifice last year to step back from his business so we could nurture our blossoming relationship. After Junior graduated that summer, we took about four vacations over the course of a few months. With him, I lived and loved. We studied each other, felt each other, and understood each other.
“Go sit down somewhere, beautiful. Don’t you need to call your sister back or something?” He chuckled.
“As a matter of fact, I do. I’ll take my talents elsewhere.” I rolled my eyes and walked off.
Our bedroom seemed so far away from where I was. I wasn’t gonna make it, so the living room it was. We found a home that had a mixture of everything we both wanted. He didn’t want to give up his house, and I didn’t want to give up my place either. He bought my place, and I used it as my place to go when I needed some true alone time, which was rare. I’d gotten used to Dre holding me every night and waking up to him feasting on me as if he’d never had a meal a day in his life.
