Beast’s grin widened. He shook his head once more.

Then Krol grasped what he’d been missing. “You’re saying she hasnonatural scent?”

Lifting his wide chin, Beast dropped it to indicate yes.

Krol ordered extra meat delivered to Beast and informed Eriko he was off the hook for failing to find the person they hunted. Eriko was not a shifter to figure out that someone with supernatural ability had tricked them by hiding her scent.

His men had reported being in a deep sleep during the hours of Bosse’s escape. Alifair had been a very busy woman the night Bosse ran from the castle.

Why would she do that for a man who didn’t even take her with him? Or had she stayed to find her friend Rez?

There would be plenty of time to get more answers and then deal with Alifair when Krol returned. He wanted to be creative when he meted out her punishment.

What better way to keep others in line than to have the entire castle witness her penance?

Chapter 22

Bosse hunched downbehind thick vegetation in the forest where Krol’s guards hunted for game when the contract shifters were unavailable.

Adrian and two other Gallize shifters surrounded him, all of them watching for someone from the castle to show up along a beaten-down trail. Before arriving in America, he’d had no idea there was such a thing as a Gallize shifter.

For the moment, he was thankful to have met them if this plan worked out.

Hunched down on the other side of Adrian was the Gallize bear shifter Justin, also in human form. The burly guy who had saved Titan from a killing blow had shown up at Jaz and Adrian’s compound with a quick smile upon seeing Bosse healed.

That smile vanished the moment he heard of the mission.

This Gallize bunch united to protect their own, especially the females.

Bosse was all in to save the women.

Vic, the third Gallize shifter, was some odd kind of wolf. Energy pulsed from him, just as powerful as Adrian’s, but where Adrian would discuss anything brought up, Vic had a tight-lipped personality. He reminded Bosse of someone who stepped up to do his duty even while questioning everything around him.

That would bother Bosse if not for the absolute respect they held for their Guardian and Adrian, the mission leader.

Those three dressed in camouflage clothing and painted their faces with black smudges.
