The Lammogo appeared content to stand that way for the rest of the day and not touch the sheep.
Titan said nothing as they watched the demonstration that had surely been for their benefit.
Bosse told Titan,If we ever face that thing, we must avoid the claws at all costs. I think they have some type of poison to stun prey.
Yes, that would be unlike any other battle we have ever faced.
No question that Lammogo would annihilate something it wanted to kill.
But why had Krol trained that creature to retrieve? Before Bosse could think on that, Krol shouted a new order at his men.
“Take this sheep to be killed and dressed for the cook.” Two guards crept down slowly and moved around behind the Lammogo to lift the comatose sheep off the ground, then scurried away quickly.
Krol chuckled. “I have entertained you enough. Time for you to return the favor.” That said, he promptly ordered a very tired-looking servant to bring him food.
The only favor Bosse would ever consider giving Krol would be a fast death just to avoid any chance he’d survive the torture he deserved.
As a lion shifter, Krol had ruled here since his father had settled their pack in Slovakia and killed every human in this castle that Krol had requested as his inheritance. That information was based on what Bosse had heard the guards talk about in hushed late-night rants. Then Krol challenged his father to a battle, winning it easily so that he became alpha.
He had no lion pride to rule as he’d slaughtered them all.
King must give us a bigger steak tonight for fighting a second battle this soon.
Bosse rolled his eyes at his wolf.
A vision of the crap the guards fed Bosse came to mind. Three days ago, two rabbits had been tossed into his cell while Titan lay on his side, trying to heal. His wolf had to capture and kill each one as fast as he could just for a meal. Titan could eat ten of those small animals and still be hungry.
The guards enjoyed watching Titan try to capture food before it ran through the bars. Everyone expected to be entertained.
Not his cookie fairy. She’d gifted him with the best meals he’d ever had in here over the last week and had asked nothing in return.
Titan must have picked up on his thoughts and said,Woman wants something.
I know, but I’m not turning down food we need to heal.
I agree. I say we help her.
That surprised Bosse. Titan generally thought zero of humans. Was his wolf getting used to the extra food?We have to find out what she wants first, Boss cautioned.I don’t see how we can escape, which makes me wonder why she’s trying to befriend us.He wished he could inhale her sweet scent and wipe away the stench from the arena.
Bad idea. That would result in relaxing him.
Deep growls came from something huge that banged the steel door on the other side of the arena from where Bosse had entered.
Pushing stringy hair off his face, Bosse told Titan,Show time, my friend. I’ll fight first in this form. Push your healing as usual and take the body when I run out of juice.
I will be ready. Then Titan added his usual sarcastic warning after they’d suffered a bone-chilling salt bath.Do not dirty our body again.
Bosse replied,I’m sure the king will have a tub filled with hot, soapy water delivered to our cage.
Yes. I sometimes forget the rewards that always await us. Titan made a muffled chuckle.
Bosse could not have survived or tolerated the endless days of being caged without Titan.
Rusty hinges squealed as the steel door began to move.
All joking ended.
Titan did his part. Energy raced through Bosse to what was left of his lingering injuries, which would heal faster once Titan took over. His back still ached, but the energy rolling through him now gave Bosse a burst of power.
