Adrian telepathically ranted to Justin,Shit fire, those magic wielders must be wiping away the wagon trail. We’ve lost them.

Justin cursed. We could go back to the castle to see if anyone has received information from Bosse and Alifair, but if we head in the wrong direction, we might screw our chances of getting to Krol’s meet site in time if we get a signal from Bosse.

Adrian couldn’t believe this had happened when the women had been so close. The only benefit right now was being close to where they stashed their clothes. Disgusted, he admitted,Yep, we’re dead in the water unless Bosse or Alifair triggers the EPIRB. Let’s get dressed and figure out a new game plan.

Chapter 37

Krol had yet to seethe second wilkotauk catch up to them, but Jothan had warned him these werewolves were the best at stealth. One still followed the wagon, though dropping back occasionally to wipe their trail.

He loved that, but this was why he’d wanted to have two wilkotauks with him.

One to deal with any threat and the other to protect his wagon.

Krol itched to shift into his lion. Anything to get him out of this wagon and away from these two bitches.

Magdelina, in particular.

She smiled as if she’d heard his thoughts, which he sure as hell hoped she couldn’t. “My mate will leave no stone unturned until he finds you and takes you apart slowly, piece by piece. He may finally smile if you scream long enough. You have one chance to avoid that fate. Return me along with this woman to Ivo and offer to release us for your life.”

Her confidence and the threat of facing a Gallize shifter might cause him to reconsider his plan if not for the mage holding a bigger stick over his head.

Besides, when this was all done, he’d have a Lammogo who could fly him away from any danger as well as attack any threat to him. Krol couldn’t wait to receive complete control of his flying surprise.

He sat back and grinned. “By the end of today, you will no longer be my problem.” Swinging his gaze to Rez, he added, “You might not as well if I’m offered enough in trade.”

Rez had said nothing in an entire month and less than a handful of words since yesterday. She leaned forward to prop her handcuffed wrists on her knees. She neither smiled nor snarled. “I don’t have a powerful mate to want vindication if I don’t survive this. What I do have is an entire community of gifted people, which you will never find. I ensured that before coming to offer aid in Romania to those believed to be related to my people. Anytime we lose a member, we join our power to provide a smooth trip to the next stage of our member’s life. But if that person was killed in any way besides an accident, we join our energy to ask that the perpetrator face their worst possible death and that it be drawn out for no less than seven days.”

She sat back, just as calm as Magdelina, who had nodded in approval.

His skin felt as if scorpions crawled over him. If only he could change into his lion and roar in their faces until they cowered. Not yet. Jothan had warned him the wilkotauks might kill his lion.

That didn’t mean he had to sit back here with the trash.

He’d been hiding his presence during this trip, but with sunrise still two hours away, he had time to stretch his legs before reaching the meet point this morning.

Krol stood, leaning his head down to keep from hitting the wagon ceiling. “Enjoy your smug attitudes for a couple more hours. I promise you both that will be the end of it.”
