Sam sent Angel a tiny head nod that didn’t send his head cartwheeling.

Sounding irritated by the whole conversation, Nitro shut it down. “Let’s get everything wrapped here and head out. We can be at Esteban’s home before 0300.”

Sam said, “By the way, thanks, Cuz.”

Nitro nodded and turned to the other two who were almost packed up.

Just to look busy, Sam checked his vest. The guys had his weapons. He’d get those back before going in to talk with Esteban.

Best time to interrogate anyone was when they were deep asleep. If Sam’s friend stumbled over any word, he wouldn’t be sleeping in comfort ever again.

Going with the team was the first inch.

Sam walked around, getting ready for the hike back to the pickup point. Please let him make it without barfing. Pain blasted in his head, but his brain still worked. He sorted through so many pieces that made no sense.

What if Esteban had sold them out?

If so, he would be waiting for word they’d all died. With lack of confirmation, he’d know they were coming for him. He’d be armed and ready.

And what about that woman?

Did she know the arms dealer?

Chapter 8

––––––––

Sam concentrated onstaying upright when he wanted to lay down and sleep off this freaking headache.

Riding in a bucking Hummer wasn’t helping. Angel navigated his own path through an overgrown forest, which would have been better for migrating goats than this wide vehicle. But Angel handled the sudden curves and dips like a champ.

Better than Sam’s stomach.

The first time they’d traveled to Esteban’s location, they’d taken a two-lane highway to a four-mile dirt road. That had been a smooth glide compared to this.

This time they wouldn’t risk advertising their approach.
