Turner said, “The body is being raised into the air now and media has been alerted. Nothing can stop this.”

“I won’t push the button,” Hallene declared.

“Have you not finally realized that I believe in backups everywhere? Kovac has the same instructions as you. If you do not push the button first, he will do it thirty seconds later.”

Sam called out, “Where you at, Cuz?”

A voice speaking from a phone on him replied, “On the way.”

Turner paled. He pressed something on his phone with his thumb.

The phone voice called out, “Sniper!”

Hallene screamed, “Sam! W pressed a button!”

Sam roared, “Get down!”

She dropped to the floor as a shot ripped through wood on the wall to the side of her.

The senator was frantically typing.

Sam shot the phone out of Turner’s hand. The senator howled, grabbing his hand.

Twisting to Hallene, Sam asked, “Are you—”

Lying beneath the plywood table, Hallene’s eyes were fixed on W who was reaching inside his jacket. “Behind you!”

Sam spun his 9mm back to the threat as the senator pulled out a weapon.

They both shot.
