The ceremony goes by without a hitch. Jack, bless his tiny heart, is quiet through the whole thing, waiting until I’m told to kiss the bride to start wailing.

Ivory groans but with a smile. “Guess he’s hungry.”

I pull her close. “So am I.”

My old lady winks. “Meet me in our room in thirty.”

“You got it.”

Ivory takes Jack from Cece while I address everyone.

“Sorry, guys, but duty calls. Feel free to kick off the party, and we’ll join you as soon as we can.”

Cheers and good-natured ribbing fills the room, as well as my soul. This is the life I was destined for, the family I deserved all along.

I join Ivory and Jack in our room. Ivory’s eyes are closed, but she’s not sleeping, and Jack’s tiny fist kneads her breast as he sucks.
