“Cheques, cheques, cheques,” all signed byEda.

“How—”

“Your dear aunt never told you, did she?” He chuckled. “These checks—thisfileis from the trust fund your daddy created foryou—technically for the next CEO of Starlight.”

They embezzled money from a trust fund under my name.

“You would have had access to it if we appointed you as permanent CEO, but that’s obviously not going to happen.”

“What about the emails?” I asked—suddenly needing to know instead of what I didn’t know. “Who was sending those emails?”

“Who do you think?” He raised a knowing brow.

It was never Harry and his minions.

It was always Eda and her puppets.

Where was Rowlen?

I pressed the button again.

“Oh, finally!” Harry straightened out a paper and cleared his throat. “Eunbin Kim will be the legal guardian of Adelaide Mikael until the age of eighteen. If circumstances prohibit this from occurring, the child will be under the adult closest, blah, blah, blah… Daniel Hayes.”

My blood froze.

“Interesting will. Considering how none of it actually happened.”

“No,” I shook my head. “Eda was always meant to be my guardian.”

“Was she?” He flung the paper at me. “How about we ask her?”

Thankfully, they stopped touching Arun—more interested in my life’s debacle.

She picked up on the second ring.

“What the hell do you want?” The light airy voice I knew transformed into a dark, villainous tone. “I’m busy.”

“Busy doing what? Fucking your best friend’s boyfriend?”

“I’d offer you to join if there wasn’t another man in between my legs.”

Eda’s meant to be in Bali.

“Daniel must suck if you’re talking on the phone with me.”

Daniel as in…

“He’s moping after his son, like usual. Tell me what the fuck you want.”

This wasn’t the same Eda who stayed by my side at the hospital the first time I fainted from blood loss.

This wasn’t the same Eda who hugged my night after night when I woke up crying for my parents.

This wasn’t the same Eda who told me she loved me.

“I wanted to know something,” Harry began with a smirk. “If I brought Adelaide to the house, what would you do?”

She went quiet and for a moment Ihoped.
