Otto’s eyes narrow, but he doesn’t give any indication that he’s about to tell Gideon what occurred between us last night. “What a lovely surprise,” he murmurs, his voice sultry.

His finger grazes my hand as he walks by, and then he’s gone.

I let my eyes wander back to Lachlan. “You should know that this job is everything to me, and I won’t letanythingget in the way of it.”

He brushes past me, his arm brushing my shoulder. I gasp at the contact, at the way my whole body ignites with his touch.

I like the idea of filling you with my cum.

I narrow my eyes and open my mouth to reply, but he leaves me alone and bereft in the dining room, regretting every single impulsive decision I made last night.

Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath and follow my new co-workers into the formal living room, knowing I have to forget that last night ever happened if I’m going to survive this.

As I do, I catch Otto’s eye, and he cocks his head slightly, dipping his eyes low to my throat and lingering there before snapping them back up.

Fuck.

I’m never going to survive this.

Just get through training, and then you can killallof them in their sleep.

They have no idea they’ve just allowed a lethal viper into the Lords of Darkness.

CHAPTER 7

Lachlan

While in prison, I learned very early on how to drown out the noise. The fighting, the howling, the laughing, and the wanking–I heard it all, whether or not I wanted to. Tuning everything out became one of my specialties, and I’m positive it’s one of the reasons I managed to keep my head on straight while there. I kept my focus every second of every day and kept my head down.

Which is why, as I lift weights on the bench, I’m not paying attention to Astern and Quinn whispering as they cool down on the mats.

I’m not listening to Harlow murmuring with the Lords about something.

I’m not paying attention toanything.

Which means when Theodore Wolf comes to sit down next to me, I don’t notice until he starts to clap.

“Nearly one hundred and fifty kilograms. Well done, mate.” My jaw grinds as I slowly lower it back into the holder. “Next time, ask one of us to spot you. The last thing we need is oneof our new Lords having a smashed skull on the first day of training.”

“I’ve done it by myself for years,” I grunt, sitting up and taking a sip of water.

“Yes, fine. Prison isolation and all of that. Still, we’re not in prison now, and you have nine people standing around that can help you.”

I don’t say anything as I take another sip of water.

“Meeting room in thirty seconds,” Sterling Beauchamp announces to everyone in the large gymnasium.

I stand up, and Otto and Max walk past me–the former of whom turns and winks at me.

I don’t try to hide the simmering growl that escapes my throat.

“The more you fight back, the more he’s going to push. You understand that, right? Trust me. I’ve been in your shoes,” Theo murmurs, following me into what looks like a classroom.

Again, I don’t respond.

Last night was a mistake and unlike anything I’d ever done. I’ve never been one to sleep with someone without a bit of an emotional connection. Abby…

Abby used to call me demisexual.
