“Holy shit,” I whispered under my breath. “We did it.”
“Fuck yeah, princess,” Cas murmured in my ear.
“You showed him whose boss,” Ryu added.
The rest of the meeting was easy. We listened in on the discussion, but the gears in my head were turning elsewhere.
Chiara left with Max—but what did that mean, and what was her next move going to be?
She was acting as a double agent, but that put her at risk. We needed to pay attention to her, make sure she didn’t get in over her head. Max also likely still had leverage over her. That was how he got her to cooperate in the first place. If we could figure out what that was, we could turn the tables on him again.
We could get her free.
Next, I needed to get ingratiated into the business. We needed to take control of the shipping routes for the gun trade. We’d have to use different transportation than what Max used, but we could work on it now.
The doors were opening.
We were growing stronger.
We did it.

She did it.
Wedid it.
As soon as we returned to the penthouse, I wrapped Leona in my arms and pressed a firm kiss to her lips.
“I am so proud of you,” I said. She beamed up at me, pulling Ciel into our hug. He pressed a kiss to her forehead, but his eyes flicked to me.
My breath stuttered. We hadn’t spoken much since I’d kissed his knuckles. He hadn’t brought it up, and neither had I. But I still couldn’t deny how my heart raced as the three of us embraced.
Thankfully, today, he’d been able to provide technical support even if he had been slower on the computers. I’d heard his slight grunts of pain as he’d gotten in and out of his van. I’d watched the strain on his brow when he tried to wiggle his fingers.
I’d figure out a way to make it up to him.
“Great job, everyone,” Obi said as we unpacked our weapons. “Now comes turning the other Italian Families against him, and using our new position on the board to divert income away fromMax and into our pockets instead. We are one step closer to shaping the future we desire.”
We headed to the kitchen to unwind while the rest of the guys chatted and discussed how the board meeting went, but I couldn’t break my thoughts from Ciel.
“How’s your hand, Ciel?” Leona asked as she gingerly reached for it. Obi started pulling food out of the fridge. “Do we need to change your bandages?”
He shook his head. “It’s fine. Sore, but it’ll heal.”
I opened my mouth. “I’m?—”
“Don’t, Wynn,” he said with a chuckle. Affectionate amusement pulled a smile to his mouth. “I get it already.”
“I’ll make it up to you.”
Ryuji threw his arms over Ciel and Leona’s shoulders, casting a knowing glance in my direction, before he sighed, heavy and dramatic.
“What’s got your panties in a bunch?” Leona laughed, nudging him in the side.
“I didn’t get to kill anyone today,” Ryuji said, lips turning into a pout. “Everything went according to plan.”
