“Agreed,” I say.
Doc’s magic fills the air, and I grin when I feel us arrive in the usual spot.
“I’m assuming from Neith’s smile that we’re here,” Griff guesses with a smile.
“Yep,” I reply proudly, popping the ‘p’ because it's fun and it scratches an itch in my brain.
“Let's go and tell a volatile troll that someone close to him is working with the scum of the supernatural world, that is responsible for starting a realm-wide war, shutting down one of the most important realms in the universe, and entrapping his mate in another realm as well,” River says rather bluntly.
“When you put it like that, any confidence that I had that this was going to go well instantly evaporates,” Doc murmurs as we all get out of the van in our usual alleyway by Sully’s bar.
River shrugs, “I don’t think this is going to go well.”
“It depends,” I say as we head toward the door. “If he’s picked up on the same thing that I have, then he’s not going to be surprised.”
None of the guys look very convinced, and to be honest, I have absolutely no idea how this is going to go. There is a small part of me that’s absolutely terrified that he’s going to accuse me of lying and stirring trouble, tell me that he never wants to see me again, and kick me out.
Deep down, I know that’s unlikely, and actually even the thought is making the Voices scoff at me like I’m being ridiculous, so I guess that should be kind of reassuring?
“Neith!” Sully greets me in his usual happy way, as he bounds over to me and pulls me into a big hug.
“Hey, Sully,” I grin.
He lets go and steps back, “Come on. I have a feeling that this conversation would be best had under the extra protective wards in my office.”
“Good call,” Griff nods, his expression serious.
As soon as the door shuts behind us in Sully’s office, I open my mouth to start talking, but Ransom interrupts me.
“One second, I want to make sure that no one can hear us,” he says as the familiar golden bubble encapsulates the room.
Sully’s eyebrows rise, “This is serious. What’s going on?”
I don’t want to drag this out, and I’m unreasonably nervous about telling him, so I launch straight into the explanation with no warm-up.
“It’s about Murray,” I start.
Sully sighs heavily and takes a seat, “I’ve had a feeling something has been off with her for a while now. What do you know?”
My body immediately floods with relief, oh thank fuck for that. It makes this whole conversation so much easier now that I know that he already suspects something is going on.
I launch into the explanation of how we found Merrikh, what he told us about Murray, and our suspicions about what it could mean.
When I’m done, we all just sit there and wait for Sully’s reaction.
“When we left Trieneliea, she was the one who struggled the most. While I never thought that she would do something like this, I’m also not surprised that she seems to have lost her way.” He mutters before continuing in astronger voice, “She’s incredibly strong. Who knows how many supernaturals and humans she’s helped to hurt, or has hurt herself? She needs to be brought in.”
“Agreed. That’s what we plan on doing. We need to question her, find out who else she has sold her services to, and why she’s done what she’s done,” Reed replies.
“We need your help to locate her,” Griff adds, somewhat cautiously.
There is a difference between knowing that one of your long-time friends is dodgy and needs to be brought in for questioning, and actually being involved in bringing them in. Most people in this situation find that part of it difficult, and tend to still hold some loyalty to the offending person, regardless of what they’ve done.
Sully sighs and nods, “I can do that. I don’t want to be involved in bringing her in or anything like that. I will simply get you the location, and then the rest is up to you.” He pauses, “I’m not sure that I can keep a level head if I were to face her.”
“Understood,” I nod.
Sully frowns, “I should be able to get you her location within an hour or so, if that.”
