A solitary tear falls down my cheek. “Thank you. I hope we didn’t ruin your weekend.”

“On the contrary, it’s just given us another reason to celebrate.” He takes my mother’s hand in his. “Theodora will need time to adjust, but all will be well.”

I can only pray that he's right. Only time will tell.

THIRTY-FOUR

She's Gone

Hell is coming for every single person that took her away from us.

-Gunner

Visions of shardsfrom my whiskey glass being shoved into Tony Sanderson's eyeballs float through my mind, but not actually doing it is a testament to how good Presley Kate is for us.

She said I couldn't kill him, she didn't say anything about making him go blind. Theodora has apologized a million times for trying to set them up.

We don't hold her accountable, she doesn't know how truly obsessed we are with her daughter. She's even introduced us to everybody as Presley Kate's boyfriends, which couldn't have been easy for her.

That fucker Tony looked surprised when he found out about us, but some people are too stupid for their own good. The knowledgethat she belongs to us, hasn't stopped him from following her around all night like a dog in heat. If he doesn't learn his place it could get bloody.

Kai growls beside me. "I've never stabbed anybody in the skull before, I could do it as an experiment."

I grunt. "Yeah, all in the name of science. Too bad she made us promise we wouldn't kill him."

He shrugs. "Accidents happen all the time."

"Thankfully, they do, but does he seem a little odd to you?" Something's off, and my brother's intuition where people are concerned is better than mine.

"I can't put my finger on it brother, but I think he's like us." He admits.

Fuck.Just what she needs, another killer infatuated with her. "Call Declan, she said we couldn't kill him but she didn't say anything about him."

He nods. "You're ten minutes too late, he's on his way."

I look at my brother to gauge his reaction. "Good, because I really don't want us to break a promise to her. Do you think this has anything to do with The King Asshole of Heart's?"

He winces, and I bite the inside of my cheek to keep the rage at bay. "You know how I feel about coincidences, Gunner. This is too much of one to believe it was by accident."

My brother's got a point. When I'd asked Theodora about him, she said that he'd walked over one evening when she'd been gardening. Supposedly, he's the son of one of their neighbors down the road. However, no one has seen his parents since he moved in.

I'm starting to think that my Little Lamb was right about this whole cult thing. I'll gut every single one of them before all is said and done.

What the fuck?"Why is she going outside with him?"

I don't wait for him to answer me because I'm already running toward the front door. For a party to be in full swing it's eerily quiet outside. I'm trying not to panic but she's nowhere in sight.

Vehicles line the drive, and are parked in the field surrounding the house. It’s fucked, because I was less than two minutes behind them, yet there is no movement anywhere. All I’m greeted with is stone cold silence.

I look everywhere, in every car—truck—in everything. She’s gone. Like a chainsaw to my chest, my heart has been pulverized. It bleeds with fury, and I will not be able to keep it below the surface for much longer. Somebody needs to pay for what they've done.

"I've got a bad feeling about this." Kai whispers.

"Where have you been?" Grabbing him by the collar of his shirt, I hiss through clinched teeth.

"Getting our knives."

He places my knife in my hand, and the sheer weight of it makes me hard. I'm going to lay their heads at her feet, then kiss her until she forgives us for allowing whatever this is to happen.
